Ludwig Black Oyster Pearl Snare

Loading...

I was able to buy a 1968 Black Oyster Pearl drum kit that came with the Chrome Supra400. Recently I came across a BOP Snare that matches my 68 kit perfectly, but it is a transition badge stamped Oct.12 1960.

1. Did they make the same wrap in 60 as they have in 68?

2. The snare is 8 lugs and looks like new, what a find! Is this snare worth as much as the ones I see on Ebay going for a few thousand?

Can't find much info about it on the web. Maybe someone can enlighten me.

I have a really nice COS snare from 1967 that would be a better match than that ratty old Ludwig thing. Carefully pack it up and see my profile for the proper email address to send for mailing instructions and I'll even pay the shipiing for them both. Wadda ya say?

WOW - That snare drum is a beauty, and quite valuable. If I'm not being to nosey - where did you find it and what did you pay for it?

I got it from another collector that was into the blue and olive badge stuff. I did some work for him and he told me he had the matching snare to my 68 kit and traded it to me for $600 job. I think he knew what he had but knew i wanted it so bad I could crap my pants.

Anyone have an idea of the real value. I did not even know that Ludwig did this in the transition badge.

Since it is an 8 lug looks like a 5x14 and the throw looks like a p-83 it could be a Jazz festival Check this http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/images/ludwig_snaredrums/1959_LUDWIG_SNARES3.jpg Jazz festivals were going for good money a few years back,60's in original and good cond were going for 500.00 700.00,and bop ringo ones were going for more, don't know if the transition badge helps or hurts value but I would say at least 600.00.Hopefully the real Ludwigs guys will chime in and give you a more accurate est.

Thanks for the link. It seems that the drum value comes and goes with people that were 18 that are now in their 50s. The transition badge is getting beyond those years. I still love this snare, it seems to have COB rims that don't rust or pit as much as my 68 kit. It really seems much better quality.

A 65ish with the classic strainer went on ebay a few weeks ago for 2100. He posted it here, got a few offers and was talked into taking it to ebay where he was surprised and elated to find his offers of 400 and 500 here were a small token compared to what it was really worth. Yours could be worth closer to that mark than the 500 mark as that is one of the hottest selling colors available, and especially if it is in excellent condition. The one the young man poosted here had been on storage for a few years.
