Okay, I was at a local Guitar Center and they had a Zildjian 20" crash ride, under the bell , in marker, signed 2253 (grams I'm guessing) Michael Skiba. The Zildjian Stamp was completely gone. It obviously was lathed and hammered. It was selling for $100. It did sound good and had a decent wobble although I don't know how it sounded before. The guy at GC showed me this link:
Modified Michael Skiba Cymbals
$100 for a Skiba? Please tell me it's still for sale!

Mike Skiba is a long time contributor to Cymbalholic.com. As far as I know he does not make cymbals from scratch but rather relathes, rehammers, and makes other modifications to existing cymbals. I've never heard them in person but the sound files I did hear were not my cup of tea. Others seem to like them a lot.

Mike has been working cymbals a long time,He hasn't been able to source blanks consistently, but I do believe he has made cymbals from them.I believe his favorite cymbal to start from was some of the heaviest unlathed/raw/ Sabian models, but will work/buy used cymbals, modify cymbals for people too.You could buy it and if you grew tired of it could flip it on cymbalholic for at least 100.00.

Agree with all points. But even with the occassional blanks he may get, he's still not really creating cymbals from scratch. In any case, I've heard very positive things about his work. The few sound files I've heard were just not for me.

I didn't buy it but was tempted because it sounded alot like my 20" hollow ink stamp logo crash ride. Maybe a little darker. Don't know what it was because the stamp and any possible ink stamps were gone. In any event, I know it was worth the money but backed off for other reasons. Thanks everyone for all info. Keep on Pl
Hey O... I don't suppose you'd mind sharing which GC location it was?
Mike has a great ear, a ton of skill and experience, and makes excellent cymbals.
I doubt Mike has any problems securing blanks. Roberto Spizzichino, Michael Paiste, Craig Lauritzen, me and others don't seem to struggle with it, so I don't know why Mike would.

You make it sound as if there is some guy out there making cymbals from scratch and that his cymbals are superior to Mike's. I do not know this to be the case. Besides the occasional piece, The only "made from scratch" cymbals that I know of come out of factories and are made by teams of guys, not individual craftsmen.

I called the store and somebody bought it about a week ago. "It went pretty quick."
It was worth a shot!
