Zildijan K Series [Instanbul] - HELP!!

From kevins

Find another way to earn the money for an electronic set.If you sell those cymbals, you are going to regret it.Maybe not today, or in a month, but eventually you will.Store them away somewhere safe,..... they are worth more than a used electronic kitwould be anyway.... and in a few years they will be worth even more. They will be around and getting more valuable all the time, while the electronic kit willfall into disrepair and be worth nothing before long. And what if you sell them, and then you move to a different place where you couldplay them without bothering the neighbors?? Only, oops, I sold my cymbals ??Peace, little brother....Kev

That's true. I collect old consoles, and I had about 200 PS1 games, I sold them a few years ago. Now I wish I didn't.

I'll wait for christmas, and get an electric kit then. Thanks buddy! (:

Hi.. I'm glad you posted this topic. The ride cymbals are always worth considerably more than the smaller cymbals, except for the hihats. If you've got a pair of 14" K's they're worth more than the 16" crash.

The range on eBay for 22" K Istanbul is between $900 and $2200. BUT that isn't relevant to you because your cymbals are smaller.

The range for a PAIR of 14" hihats K Istanbul is between $450 and $800.

The range (these are eBay ranges) for the other cymbals are what Bill says.

If you are looking to get values for your drums and cymbals then I think the drums and cymbals are going to be worth around $1000, depending on the value of the Ajax drums and Premier Floor tom. Why? You're wanting to sell them and buy a set of electronic drums. Unless you're an adept eBay seller who can split them up appropriately and sell them, figure the low ends of all the values.

Obviously value is what someone is willing to pay you for them.

These all assume excellent condition with no cracks, or problems.

People telling you to keep the cymbals assume you may find out later how rare they are, and decide you want to play jazz with them. THAT may never happen. I would be careful about trying to buy a new electronic kit that will lose its value by 50% as soon as you buy it, with funds paid for by selling off a vintage set that has its value stabilized.

The main reservation you should have in selling these is if they're a family heirloom. If there is sentimental value or something, you should get a job and pay out a set of electronic drums and wait until you're financially stable enough to really figure out what these vintage items are worth to you, because you may decide to keep them and really get a good value from them by playing them, or you may decide to sell them, keep in mind that time is on the buyer's side. A fast sale translates into less money for you, a slow sale, taking time to research, find suitable buyers, etc. will translate to better money for you (usually), the seller.

Good luck! Have fun.

Yeah, thanks.

I probably wouldn't be up for selling them on eBay, i'd maybe do it private - hand to hand, if I did it. But, I probably wont now, as I KNOW i'd regret it.

I'll think about what I should do for the electric kit.

Please be aware that Drumaholic is THE expert on old Ks. Not just on this site, but everywhere! He is the person that developed and refined the timeline used by everyone selling old K's and old A's. He knows the current worth of these cymbals better than just about anyone else. If he says a particular cymbal is worth X dollars, you can bank on it. Anyone you know, or have spoken to, who believes your smaller cymbals are worth more simply because they are from the '50s and in good shape are just guessing. Drumaholic knows! He has personally bought and sold more old Ks then you would believe possible

Buy the way, I bought a 20" old K ride last year that was probably NOS (new old stock). It still had its original shine and an impeccable signature under the bell. I paid $1500 for it at the same time that some 22" rides were selling for $3000 or more. I would expect an 18" to sell for for around a $1000 or less, and a way less desirable 16" cymbal to sell for much, much less than an 18". The real money is in the rides, with the 20" and 22" models being the most desireable.

Oh. Sorry, the thing was - I thought Drumaholic would just be another person that's guessing, I didn't realise he was the one that created the timeline.

So, for the kit, i'd probably be getting $1000 - $1500 ?

I won't be selling them, though, as like peope have said - i'll regret doing it.

I'm guessing i'll be sending Drumaholic an appology.

Thanks, buddy.

Can't tell you about the value of the drums. Try elswhere in the forum. This area is specific to cymbals.

The lights came on and your at home! These people speak wisely and it seems like you got it. Your lucky to have some nice cymbals. When I was 13, trash can lids would have been a upgrade to what I was playing on.
