Lol. Nobody has offered one single counter arguement to the fact Linkin Park has dominated the music biz the last decade but I am the one who can't see the light. Laughing H

Amen brother, amen!

I used to have an empty brown paper bag with the word "clues" written on it, taped to the wall next to my desk at work. If someone was "clueless" I'd tell them to reach in and grab one. Then they'd look at me funny. "Hey there's nothing in here!" Yep, still clueless! LoLoLoLo

One hit song does not equate domination in my book.

Now, far be it from me to argue anyone....however, L/P is far from a "mega group" or Mega Stars...As a matter of fact, I don't hear them dominating the airwaves anywhere...and as for anyone that panders "rap and roll", as it is coined, they will soon go the way of the do-do bird. None of it is exhilarating or inspiring. They may have a beat, and may have a spot on the charts, but trust me, thay are not, in any way, innovators or leaders in the world of music.

Yes, they may well be selling tunes via i-tunes, and being ripped from the internet in astounding numbers, but they are hardly original. The originality of the style began 20+ years ago with Beasty Boys and Run DMC. These guys are posers and imposters.

Sorry Hack, but there is no substance to L/P's "music". Look around the bar scene and you will find much more originality than these guys. They are "Formula 3:26" and, in the famous words of Skynyrd, "workin' for MCI..."

"Ignorance may be overcome through education. Stupidity, however, is a lifelong endeavor." So, educate me, I don't likes bein' ignant...

linkin park do not dominate anything period. in my opinion they are boooooooring. they are designed to be "edgie" but just "edgie" enough to not offend the parents of the kids who buy their records. they are polished, packaged, marketed to children as a non threatening alternative to music with real social content. a weak hybrid of hip hop and rock that ignores the best elements of both. honesty and excitement. it is very clear to all who know history of music at all that the beatles are the biggest influence in rock and roll ever. and while i can absolutely respect anyones tastes. if you dont like em you dont like em! however to compare linkin park or any of those other bands ludwig dude spoke of to the beatles?!?! now thats just plain dumb. to call the lyrics of the early beatles music simple and boring is fine thats your right. but remember if the beatles "love me do" is a simple picasso scetch tasteful and understated. then linkin park is dogs playing poker on black velvet.

I guess this narrow mindedness should be expected on a vintage drum forum. How could I possibly expect guys who worship Ringo kits to see past the Strawberry Fields of fifty years ago? It's cool Rutsey. At least you offered an opinion and not a simple, dismissive, condescending comment that most of the others have. The best selling rock band of the last decade, period. This is a major accomplishment in music. There is only ONE number one and it is LP for the last decade, regardless of how you wish to paint their origins, etc. Do you wish to tell me that the Beatles weren't singing to a pack of rabid 16 year old girls and that their music wasn't scripted to attract this audience once they started cashing in the chips? They were probably the original boy band for Pete's sake!!!

The entire theme to my posting on this thread really wasn't to endorse LP. It was more of a response to the ridiculously absurd comments made about modern music. Here is a quick cap of those comments: Nobody dances to modern music, modern musicians dont take solos anymore, modern musicians dont know how to play their instruments, only music that has aged for 30+ years is worth a damn etc. etc.

This is the line of thinking in this thread and I chose to demonstrate a modern rock band's successes, but mostly all who have responded are not clued in enough to even acknowledge their success in the face of someone actually calling the Beatles what they are. "Blasphemy!! How can he say that about our beloved Beatles??? We have to do something!! Call him clueless and make jokes and stuff to try and avoid the facts of the arguement and take the attention off of our lack of counter facts. Hurry up. Post something!!! " This is how I read most of the posts here....LMAO

Modern bands aren't doing nothing that the ancient bands of long ago didn't do. They are trying to reach as big of an audience as possible, but the difference is they have the technology, charts, graphs, etc to know how to fine tune their acts to ensure this happens. I say what is wrong with that?

Any noteworthy ancient band did the same thing with the technology of their day. They all appeared on those shows that featured kids dancing and a hip band jamming away. They all made their guest appearances on the variety shows of the day. Band member's were replaced. We have somehow elevated these bands to a holier than thou status when in reality, they were just trying to sell records, and make a boat load of money while doing it. Today's musicians do the same thing but they are finding the money harder to come by with all of the Blackbeard's out there stealing their property. LP stands out as a band that has such a wide appeal, they are still actually selling a ton of albums. A rarity in today's music scene.

Obviously you never listened to the White Album, Let it Be or Abbey Road.......far from bland, kidsy and soul-less.....And no this is not an "I know more than you neener neener neener" thread.....its a reply to how cluless some of you guys are out there and CLOSE MINDED you can be. I'm open minded to new music, I listen to it....but I know crap when I hear it. The Beatles were not crap. The Monkees, sure....because they were made up for a TV show, not even a real band! Linkin Park, Sevendust, Godsmack, Creed, Nickelback, Buckcherry...the list goes on and on.....all cookie cutter record company crap for the masses that needs to go away. How much dirge in the "key of satan" with gravelly or just plain cookie monster style vocals do they need to throw in our faces? It all sounds the same, like crap. It happened with the grunge scene of the 90's, a couple of innovators, then in comes the record companies and everybody is sounding the same again.....same with the 80's......Van Halen comes out in 78 and then EVERYBODY is sounding and trying to play like Eddie by the late 80's....makeup, spandex, aquanet pink and all!Sometimes people that have no clue and just follow what's shoved down their throat by the record comapnies should just stay silent.

I should just keep my mouth shut... but what the hell.

What you said about The Beatles 100% correct, however come on with the modern rock attitude.

You say yourself sometimes people have no clue and just follow whats shoved down their throats by the record companies... Yet the bands you listed to represent modern rock are all exactly that.

If you want to complain about modern rock being bad, that is your right, but at least try to dig deeper than whats on the radio. Like YOU said its all cookie cutter crap, but you are still only listening and judging modern rock by what is being shoved down your throat by the record companies.

There's all kinds of different people here.

I sure don't worship Ringo kits. I personally find pretty much all music of the past kinda boring and have very little interest in it. Close to none. It's over.

I am only really interested in music of the now and future. I'm interested more in arrangements, licks, actual sound... I find talking about drums extremely boring, most of it is a rehash of what I knew 40 years ago. RB's are great, old K's are great... I was telling everybody that in 1972. It's boring. Songs are where it's at, not the tools to make them.
