I,ve never done anything like that to a shell, but i may do a spare tom just to see if it actually "improves" the sound. It would be a lot of work if its not instantly noticeable.

HERE is the link to the exact product. I've used it on several drums. Read about what it is and draw your own conclusion. It works very well. I used several coats on the insides.

Probably less work than fitting veneer to the interior of a stencil set

which got good reviews around here ??................

...?...who would do something so preposterous as th...oh, you talkin' 'bout me, ain'tcha. Well, I also did a quick Google search and found a way to make some home made elixir out of beeswax, carnuba and olive oil. I'll bet it smells really good too!

So far, this is all I can find. It keeps going round in circles trying to find more info. Maybe I am not using the proper search terms or combination, but all the searches come back to the same place. If I could find the actual recipe....

"all-natural wood floor wax by warming up a combination of olive oil, vodka, beeswax and carnauba wax in a tin can or glass jar in simmering water. Once the concoction has been mixed and allowed to harden, it can be rubbed directly into wood floors with rags"

"Ignorance may be overcome through education. Stupidity, however, is a lifelong endeavor." So, educate me, I don't likes bein' ignant...

I was referencing your veneer mod to make the point that a lot of work seems to have to go into some of the stencil sets to improve the sound, and putting on a few coats of Ecohaus seems like much less labor intensive way of going about it. And not everyone has the past experience you do from your years of antique restorations.

Careful with that homemade concoction.... one misstep and drunken Italian Surfer Bees will invade your home.....................Yes Sir

hehehehehe....

I like to joke...and that was my intent with that post. You are correct in that it was a ton of work, but it was as much for aesthetics as sound quality. I have used lacquer alone with great results, and as long as the wood is not sanded too smooth, the lacquer does penetrate the surface and soak into the wood. It does strengthen the shell, although not as much as I am sure other products do. One thing is for sure, I do like to use products that use organics rather than pure chems or plastics. Many lacquers, and it appears waxes as well, use mostly organics to get the job done.

Now, as for the aforementioned recipe, I have a great assistant. Still, I think there would be another ingredient that would be the same, only different. De-natured alcohol from the paint store would be the same, rather serve the same purpose as vodka. Why waste vodka? I don't like it anyway, so having any on hand is unlikely in my home, unless the wife and her pals have a girls night in and they have white russians....yuk.Party
