I have been looking at this vintage kit,I believe the seller is on this forum. The price seems okay, but does anyone have experience with this kind of kit? I am an advocite of trying before you buy but I cannot in this situation.

Really cool kit there bos, if the price is right I'd jump all over it. Very rare config in a Slingerland, looks incredible in natural mahogany!

I cannot speak for the 18" bass drum, but I have two of each, 12 and 14 and they are exceptional. I am pretty sure that bass will sound good. Those are some good looking drums, if I had the extra dough I would grab them!

He quoted me a very sizable chunk of dough. Also note that they are refinished. Don't get me wrong. This is my take only. Great drums at a price point that's quite a bit off the mark. Maybe he's come down since my phone quote. If so, man oh man ... sweet kit. And for the record, Bill is a great guy who runs a great biz. Please don't take the thread that direction.

I actually bought my 60's Slingerlands through Bill on E-Bay. It was a bit scary buying something like a drum kit online without seeing or playing them first but I'd done a lot of research and pretty much knew what I was looking for. And the chances of a kit meeting all my criteria showing up for sale in my city was slim so I took a chance. And held my breath until they arrived. And they're absolutely great! Bill answered all my questions honestly and thoroughly. He's very knowledgeable and trustworthy and I wouldn't hesitate to buy from him again in the future. Yes, I may have been able to buy a similar kit for less money but quite often you get what you pay for, especially buying online.
