Here's a pic of mine. I've had my resonators for 25 years now!! I STILL LOVE them. I have the Black Shadow finish. Simply beautiful finish. I also have a 14"x8" wood snare that is black but not a resonator. But THAT, sounds like a cannon. Awesome drums, period. Inside shells are all black. I've bought & sold other kits over the years but these have ALWAYS been my babies. These were actually a part of a bigger, double bass kit that I built back in the 80's but I found that in most clubs where I've played, there was NEVER enough room. I usually ended up only playing 5 or 6 peices at a time with a double pedal. So a few years back, I traded in a 4 peice of this kit in order to purchase another kit. But that's where I drew the line. The rest of these in this pic I will never get rid of. These have been thru my ups and downs thru out my musical "career". They're a part of my "history" and I don't think I could ever part with them. This web site is great and all of your resonators are just as beautiful! Enjoy playing them folks!!

Around 1-1/2 years ago,on Craigs,there were 3 drums for $100.....

Turned out to be 2- 1960's Luddy Champagne toms (12 and 13) and a PD101 Premier Resonator metal shell snare.

A friend I went with PASSED on them,and I didn't have the $$$ on me at the time!

That's a beautiful set but something just doesn't seem right about it. It doesn't have the gull wing tension rods on the bass drum and you can see the hardware holes inside the tom. My resonator inserts cause the inside of the drum to look like a solid wood shell with only the muffler showing. Mine just have the Premier badge and no resonator ID. I think they made Resonators before 1983?? I know mine are old and may be some of the first ones? The first pic does not have the insert in the bass drum.

These are some of the best sounding drums I own. 14"x24" Bass, 9"x13" and 10"x14" toms. 16"x16" Floor tom.

I have a Premier catalog dated 1977,and they show a Resonator kit in there!

I've got a 73 cat with the Kenny Clare kit (early Resonator double wall design) and a 75 cat with the full Resonator kit. The 72 cat does not contain the double wall design. As previously stated, the Black Shadow kits were hand stained inside and out.

A friend said Phil Collins played a Res kit for the 74-75 Lamb Lies Down tour........

I bought a new Premier 10 lug Maple 2005 in 1982. It's a superb drum in design, craftsmanship and.. most important... sound quality.

I don't play it regularly these days, but when I do take it off the shelf... as I did just yesterday... it's response and beauty of sound always amazes me.

It has the older style Zinc alloy hoops. I believe the hoops on your snare are chrome over aluminum, which is why one often now sees badly pitted examples, though yours hoops appear to be quite clean. Congratulations!
