Hello everybody,My name is Tony. I was just given an old set of slingerland drums. They are black with gold hardware. The badges on the drums are black and gold from Niles,Illinois. There are four mounted toms, one floor tom and one bass drum. The sizes are as follows: 8x10, 10x10, 12x12, 13x13, 16x16 and 14x22. The inside of the drums are a dark grey color. Does anybody know anything about these drums? I was also given a snare stand, three cymbal boom stands and an old bass drum pedal. The snare stand and cymbal stands are also gold finish. I'm planning on cleaning and polishing these drums and installing new heads. Just wondering if its worth all the time and effort.

A lot of times, it takes pictures to accurately identify a set of drums. There are just so many little details that are hard to describe with words, but easy to pick out from a picture. Take badges, for example... It would be take quite a while to describe all the different variations, but a quick comparison between the pictures on this page and and the badges on a set of drums can help you figure out their age.But in this case, I'd guess your kit was from the "Black Gold" series, circa 1980. The gold hardware and gray interior really help narrow it down. The deep "power tom" configuration also hints at 1970s-'80s.Assuming the shells are in good shape, they're certainly worth fixing up. I don't know about your kit's collector value, but Slingerland really didn't make too many bad-sounding drums in their Chicago/Niles days.I'm probably not the only one who would be curious to see pics, including the interior of the shells. I've seen them mentioned, but I've never actually seen a Slingerland "Black Gold" kit before.
