Need vintage '61 Ludwig wrap & 12" rack tom

Loading...

Hi all. I recently picked up a '61 Ludwig set with a white marine pearl wrap. the front bass hoop has a 1/2" inlay of the wrap and mine is missing about 24" worth. Are their any reliable sources to buy vintage wraps?

The set came with a 13" rack tom but I am used to dbl rack toms so am thinking of reversing the 13" tom (see photo) and putting a 12" tom on a stand next to it. The 13" isn't perfect when reversed but works. Anyone have a 12" rack tom with marine white pearl for sale or know where I might find one?

Thanks for your help!

Precision Drum, Jammin' Sam, and drumbuilder.com all sell wraps. There will be two tricks here: first, to my knowledge none of them duplicate the 1960s Ludwig WMP exactly -- the pattern is slightly different. For an inlay strip, though, you can probably get away with what's available.

Second, it will be tough to match the shade since WMPs age so idiosyncratically. There are a couple of options to solve this problem: first, Precision Drum in particular carries a wide variety of WMPs. You can order sample swatches to try to match the pattern and colour as closely as possible. Second, if that doesn't work, you can order a custom-tinted WMP from drumbuilder.com in their "ColorWraps" line. They only sell full sheets, though, and they're quite expensive -- probably more than is worth it just for an inlay, though of course that's up to you.

Good luck!

Thanks, sorry for the mis-information... I couldn't get drumbuilder to load up last night, so I thought there was some mistake.

Apparently my computer suffers from confusion just as I do on occasion !!

Thanks everyone! Turns out one of the rims already had a new strip inlayed sometime in the past. It is close enough to the original, most would never notice the slight color diff.

I still need the 24" but for now have put that part of the rim w/o inlay facing down so the missing part can't easily be seen.

I just got a Elvis band gig so the Ludwigs should be perfect in sound and in looks! They turned out pretty nice for my first restoration. Thanks again for the great help and advise!
