70's Slingerland hardware

Did Slingerland ever put a shell mounted cymbal holder on it's 1970's bass drums? I'd love to add one, but also want to keep the piece correct.

Sure did

I've got a 1970 kit with 2 cymbal mounts on the bass drum.

As for keeping it correct...... hmmm some would say if it 'aint

factory it 'aint correct.

But it's entirely up to you, it won't look out of place if you

decide to fit one.

Now I just have to find the pieces!

The mount is the same as a floor tom mount, pretty easy to find.

The cymbal arm..... different story there.

I've got the cymbal arm, if you're interested. I got it here on the forum. I believe its the non adjustable cymbal l-arm that came with the Buddy Rich kits. At least, thats what I was told when I bought it. Let me know :)

If so, that would of course be the Cymbal Rod used for the Splash Cymbal.

The Ride Cymbal Arm was adjustable in height. Mark

Thanks for the info Mark! Unfortunately when I bought it I was just getting into vintage drums and was really eager to get a Slingerland l-arm for the bass drum I was restoring. I should have searched around a bit a more and done my homework because what I really needed was the adjustable ride cymbal arm.

Anyway, thanks again for the information!

What is the length of the arm?

Thanks,

Hi Greg,

The length of the arm itself is 9 inches, which makes me think it is not the splash cymbal l-arm. I took a look at some pics of Buddy's set up and it looks as though his splash is quite a bit higher than 9 inches. Also in Rob Cook's Slingerland book it looks as though Buddy's kit had a non-adjustable cymbal arm (?), so maybe this is the ride cymbal arm, as I was originally told. Anyway, I've attached a picture to give you a better a look.
