Horizontal bass drums? Never seen before. Guess he plays it with pedals like cocktail drums? Can't see any other reason than giving himself the greatest blast in deep bass. Hmmmm

Yep... he was playing his bass drums like that as far back in the 1960's in his "Mandala" days. And yes he plays them with the reversed cocktail pedals, no clue as to what make they were. I have the Alice Cooper "Welcome to my Nightmare" DVD and they sound exactly like vertical bass drums, albeit a little boomier as they are not muffled (no way possible horizontally) and he played them minus resonant heads.
