Here is one update...I guess the first. This is the 13x11 Floor Tom. I thought this was a 10" deeop shell, so this will make a nice little floor tom. Next will be the mounted tom. I am having a hard time deciding what hardware to use. Should I use the Star hex rod, the Pearl tube mount, or the rail & consolette? The problem with the rail is I think it will not be high enough to reach for most players. The tube is tall enough, and I have a cool bass plate, but it just looks so generic, and the hex, well, I am not sure it would be tall enough either. I will get the bass set up next with the legs. Which brings another decision to make..."chicken legs" or Slingerland type disappearing rods?

Yes, this is a "rough" finish. It is very large grain glitter, like small rock salt. And after 7 coats of lacquer, it is still rough feeling under the hand. Did you click on the photo after you opened it? If that is not the close up you want, let me know and I'll shoot another.

Here you go, FT! Now this is a rogh finish, not a smooth one. I do both, this one captures light in a very unique way.

Wow! Impressive finish. I would love to do that finish on one of my stave snares. Is it hard to do? Does the glitter hold on to the drum. I mean, there are no pieces falling off, it's on solid? Is the glitter held on by the laquer?

Some will flake off until you get it settled. The more lacquer you apply, the better it holds. I normally use standard glitter, but this was a fluke. I made the 16 to match my sons kit, 20-12-12-14-16- and snare. It was too late for the glitter as I did not know the glitter was so large, it was a lighter blue, and after I got into it I found the size was not really cool, so this is an accidental finish. I get this glitter at HobbyLobby, it called SueLin. The large bottles and it is a light blue and then I mix it with a dark blue.

The process is simple. First, decide if you want to stain the shell a base color. Then apply a coat of lacquer and bigin sprinkling on the glitter. Make sure you have some visqueen on the ground, table, whatever surface as you will want to recycle the glitter. I use a sprinkler bottle to get a good even coating. It takes a lot of glitter, but it is cheap enough, compared to wrap. For about 40-50 bucks for the glitter and lacquer you get a seriously cool finish. Make sure to keep a baggie full so you can repair any damage.

That one is actually a plain old lap warmer. It keeps the brutal winters in front of us...We have the funkiest weather...70 one day 25 the next...79 the next, then a blizzard and back to 60....
