You know you could go pick up a super cheap priced, wood finished MIJ rack tom and then totally refinish it. Dont use top of the line stains or anything, get some cheap stain and polyurethane and just try to make that drum look new. This would be a real cheap "education" for any future projects, IMO. Heck, drill a couple holes in it and practice plugging them up too. There are threads on here that spell plugging holes out for you. It sounds to me, no offense intended, that you haven't done much hands on trade type work. I promise you that staining a piece of wood is a very simple task. Ever see the Karate Kid? Stain on, stain off. Repeat if a darker tone is wanted. That's it. They make a rattle can type polyurethane spray that I used on my old .30-.30 rifle stock and it came out great. Keep the can moving when spraying and less is more with that stuff.

The rewards of doing something yourself cannot be measured in dollars and cents but you will save a lot of both of those as a bonus!!

You have so right...

I have ot att all been working so much with wood or paint before.

I will probably try to stain only it to the scratches, and than go over it with polyurethane spray.

If it been ok, maybe take a fine-fine sandpapper over whole basdrum and spray over it too...

And finaly som furiture polish on it.

I will take a look over there too...

First I only wanted , from here, to get advice what to do att all?

So I wanted your suggestions:

Stain only scraches,

stain scratches and relacq whole bas drum,

stain whole basdrum,

plug old holes

do not plugg old holes

leave it as it is.

When I have make my mind, then it´s easyer, then I at least know what to do.

Tehn I got left "only" one question, "How to do it"

So I get in touch with a furinture builder.

He build a boat tables, chears, custom furnitures and so on, end even repairs old furntiures. I sew seom pictutres on his website, tables made off different type of woods, with inlays . Looks great.

www.woodrad.se

I think he is they guy to wisit with my basdrum and hoops, and get some proffessional tips and recepies from.

Probbably he will sugges me the same as you did here :-)

But now I know little bit more what you guys thinking about relacqer evetyhing, or just scratches. I think i will only go on (deep) scratsches with stain, and eftehr sand lightly whole basdrum, and let him spray all over it once with lacquer.

That way, all damages that set got in past 40 years is still there, NOT tryed to de reparid and hided, but I made it less uggly, allmost invissible ( I hope ) from 2-3 meters.

About filling holes, I am not realy shure yet what do do....

Keep unoriginal Pearl tom mount, to try replace it with original tom mounts ( that it seems very expensive, and even impossible to buye att all?!?! ), or fill holes and go for rims?

P.S. This will be Players kit, so improve sustain feels like nice idea to med.

On the other side, original is allways most funny.

And pearls tom mount is less nice att all....Mind Blowi
