Went and looked at it and passed. The shell was mahogany. Was MIJ. No marking that said Ludwig or badge. Also the throw was after market. I offered less he said a music store would buy it. No harm no foul

yes. I working on a kudwig bass drum. I was going to buy the snare to flip. I would of not made anything on the snare. The guy only wanted 40.00 for it. But it would of been a wast of money. Just beacuse I could of put the 40 into the bass drum

it's funny that i run by this post because i thought "these pictures look familiar". what i realized is that it's because i was looking at it on craigslist just minutes earlier.

i have to admit that i was stumped as well. i was stumped because i have a 1966 blue sparkle ludwig club date and the snare for it looks very similiar to it. the color looks the same, lugs look the same and it's a 6-lug too.

reguardless, it's very interesting to find out that it's actually an MIJ. those things look so much like the real thing that it takes a very keen eye (like the eyes of the users on this forum) to be able to tell the difference.

fine work in figuring this one out.

Thanks for the kind words. That strainer looks like either a Slingerland Rapid Strainer, or a Star Rapid Strainer, again another virtually undetectible copy from Star to Slingerland. Very close top the real deal.

How do you know it is MIJ? Looks like 50s Ludwig or WFL to me. They were mahog interiors with maple re-rings. Hardware all looks Ludwig except the strainer and butt, but they do not look Japan to me. No badge is suspicious, though, and the Ludwig/WFL hardware looks Nickel plated.

Did it say made in Japan on it?

The only thing that looks Japan to me is the dark Blue wrap.. Again tough to tell from the pictures. Need more evidence before I'm on board here.

the snare clearly has 8 lugs. the lugs certainly look ludwig. shell is suspect.

The strainer & butt look like Slingerland, I may be wrong.
