An old timer friend of mine has a hihat stand that has, for lack of better description, a big arm that comes over the top and holds the top cymbal. The arm moves up and down when you operate the pedal. It's truly unique and feels exceptional. It was probably from the 50's and is an "at home or house band only" model because it is pretty awkward to transport.
