2000 is WAAAAYY too much. More like 600, maybe 700 is a fair sale on a silver sparkle. And the difference is a better tuning range with 8 lugs.
....damn...do I sound like I know soemthing....:Snow Flake:?
I'd say its easier to fine tune an 8-lug snare, not necessarily a "better tuning range". You can crank up a 6-lug or leave it medium tuned just as easily as an 8, 10 or 12 lug snare. The range I think is the same, its the ease of tuning with the more lugs you have.
...and the extra lugs can dry out the tone quite a bit. There's more versatility in a 6 lugger. It's a bit tougher to tap into it, but it's there.
Yep. Thats why I like the sound of Pioneers better than I do the sound of Jazz Festivals. They sound more open and ambient, in my opinion. And I also find tuning a 6-lug drum easier than and 8 or a 10 lug drum, too. But that's likely because, once I get the drumheads on and the tension fairly equal all the way around, I get to the gig and start turning screws one way or another until the drum sounds right for the room. It's pretty random, actually. And less lugs means less screws to turn, too! :Santa:
