Here you go.

And from initial tapping, it sounds good.

Will get a better tuning on it after dinner and see how she rocks. I will also post better pix later. Gotta run...

\

Well, I have done some tuning, and I think I will have to let the forum decide what to do with this one.

Let's review: 5 ply mahogany, Asian in origin, with re-rings, this is highly irregular. The lugs and hoops are Star, therefore this is a Star, no doubt in my mind of this fact. I have added the following in order to make this a good, playable drum. It has a great tuning range. Pearl P-85 style strainer and butt, curly maple veneer, lacquer with a Shaker Pine stain and 3 colors of super fine glitter, applied at a rate of 7 coats, sanded and steel wool between coats. The finish is DEEP. Top coat is.....I hate this, but really wanted to make a good, glossy and solid protective coat, Polyurethane. One coat, only as a protective layer on the soft lacquer.

Heads- Coated Ambassador top, Emperor snare side, for a nice, crisp attack and sweet response. Very sensitive, and NO BUZZ!!! The snare beds got an updating, and I happened to get them perfect. No snare buzz....how does that happen? What did I do right to deserve this?

OK, so Who needs a bad little snare, at a reasonable price? I am thinking about taking offers, so even if you are not into MIJ, this might very well be the one to get you started....

Sorry, I made a mis-statement....there is some minor snare buzz from the toms, but not the kind you typically hear from cheap snare drums. It is the typical buzz that you can't avoid, short of taping the snares tight...Hey, I think I'll try that...taping the snares....I am going to need Duck Tape, and since I am in OK, not NC, I will not be required to employ the Unionized helper as is the case in NC, OK is a "Right To Work" state...meaning you have the right to work for whatever peanuts the company chooses to grace you with...and it is usually just that, peanuts, unless you work for an oil company, then you get actual dollar bills.

J--

The drum looks lovely!!

So, am I overthinking it (a common issue with me) or was that "NC" a reference to Duck, NC when using the oft-mispronounced "Duck" tape...?

Never thought about Duck, NC...it was a reference to the boys working on the drum. They live in NC. And the mispronuciation was indeed intentional on my part, just for the humor of the entire joke.

That is truely a nice looking drum.

Great job & thanks for all the detail = awesome! I like the photos.

I'm a Glitter-Guy (for now anyway) and that is one nice looking finish. I like the mix of Vintage-type brown & glitter. I'm going to have to do that one of these days.

Was the missing n in mispronunciation the punchline then?.........LoLoLoLo

Jonni - it`s lovely- big congrats and well done.

For snare buzz- make sure your snare cord is tensioned equally on each side of the angle of tension ( not askew ) and check to see if your snare bed is evenly cut. If those fail to answer then slightly loosen the tension lugs closest to the snare beds- that can help as well. If that fails you could deepen your snare beds a little if you dare. If none of that sails then you could buy cable wires ( I like Pearl's 20 strand cable model myself)- they sound decent and do not buzzSumo Dude BOL
