Vintage Sonor

Loading...

I'm thinking of delving into getting a set of vintage Sonors for myself....thinking teardrop era......now, everyone knows I'm a Ludwig guy, but I've been hearing o much good about these old sonors that I think maybe I need to get me a set of them. Excited What is the best era to look for? Any major issues I should be aware of? What kind of price range do they fall into usually? Anybody have a set they are looking to sell or possibly trade?

Sorry for all the questions but Sonor is not one of my highpoints of drum knowledge.....x-mas3

Ahls sigh nose siz, staysway fum dem Kaiser Era drumz. Theyz bad mojo.Kleening

All kidding aside (well, most of it) ... you really can't go wrong with a late 60's/early 70's Sonor kit. I've played a few and these were particularly nice. Don't know if it was those specific kits or those years of production, but man ... they cooked. I've heard that the earlier 60's were nice, too. Can't speak for them with much authority, though. Good luck in your search. Are you leaning towards rock or jazz setups?

I did comment. I might have had a finger pulled while doing it ... but it's there.

Leaning more towards a jazz kit...12/14/18 or 20, maybe a snare too.....finish is not important, but it is something that I must like, not too ugly you know?

Not much out there on CL or Ebay, so this looks like it may be a longer quest than it was for stuff for the Leedy kit I restored.

I would search out a dealer for this one ... or a member here. They are sweet kits and the most difficult variable is the hardware. Some of that stuff is TOUGH to locate. If you deal direct with someone that has it all - complete - you will pay more, but will reduce the headache factor (and final cost) by a great deal.

I've somewhat made this decision when I'm ready to pull the trigger for my Premier kit.

...curious ... have you ever played an 18? I just couldn't get it to work for me. But, I'm tall and fat and gray and feeble ... so ... maybe it's just me.

I've had a couple of 18's before.....the jazzette was hard to control...very bouncy due to the shallow depth. The modern kit I had was a 16x18, much easier to control and it sounded HUUUUGE. :D BTW....3 outta 4 of those describes me to, but I never had an issue with playing an 18...:D

Something like these? 20,13,16. Pretty much the standard size teardrops. Very hard to find 12,14 sizes. These are 1970 6 ply beech with rosewood veneer. I am willing to part with these for a handsome sum. Snare is NOT included. PM me if you might be interested.
