Nice little snare! It is a Pearl, and clean and perfect! They are very low toned, so don't mmake the mistake of over cranking it. And check right away for snare beds, as some have 'em, some don't. Light smokey tone from these, if it is a really thin shell.

Remo Made in the Usa original head on a MIJ snare? Cheers

Yes sir, all the plastic heads in the early days were made here and shipped to them. Remo made the KingStone Plastic drum heads for Star. Those are hard to come by, but I saw a snare the other day with an original set of KingStones on it.

thanks for the info jonnis.i wasnt sure myself but i just guessed because the drum looks like its been in an attic since a month after it was new that the remo heads were factory. there are no snare beds. this 16" 8 lug blue sparkle floor tom was with it and i couldnt leave it there without its little red friend...... imagine that..... two orphan drums torn apart by one mans game of picky choosie. but i really just wanted too show the "mica swingline" head. since the topic of odd mij stencil heads came up. is this one a tama? swingline kinda sounds tama-ish.

This is a later stencil name, made by Hoshino, and is probably a 9 ply shell, is that correct? Solid mahog, and sharp edges, along with a foil badge. The shark tooth lugs are the key, and it is hghly suspected, by me anyway, that TAMA had some hand in this endeavor, although the other experts insist they did not. I defer to them in this as they have the information. Eric, aka OsakaBop, has done some research in Japan on this company, and in my mind they are still so obscure, and hidden from view, that to me it is too easy to see that TAMA may well have still been playing some minor, or even major, part in the whole stencil game, although very quietly and secretively. That said, I defer to them as his research is solid enough for my purposes. All we need to know is that they are Hoshino.

Just today, I saw a 'Hoshino' kit in a second-hand shop with exactly these lugs like the Mica. So jonnistix is right: it's a 'Hoshino'.

And acc. to all I've read about 'Hoshino' and 'TAMA' (or earlier: STAR): they are NOT the same company. So jonnistix is wrong.

With this.;)

not sure on the shell jonnis. defiantly luan without re rings. im not gonna mess with it till i do something with it. i didnt know they made these drums with that many plies. almost makes me wanna make a mij jelly bean kit with em. i think a gold sparkle 12" tom and a 22" silver sparkle kick would tie em together nicely.

Oh yes,Jonni is right on these heads, they are hard to come-by even used..When remo made these in the 60s they were the lower end heads. One way to tell is by looking at the head, these heads had a white plastic ring around the out-side of the head..--Not like the metal ring on the top end of Remo's heads...Mikey
