I've kept my eye on this MIJ Saturn snare for a little while. Seller wants $50.00 CDN for it. He claims it is a 4-1/2" x 14". Would this be correct? I only have the one pic right now, but I asked him to forward pics of the inside and underside of the drum? I'm not sure if that is the original wrap or not. Can I have your opinion on this drum?

No, not unless they have re-cut the edges a couple of times. It should be a 5 or 5.5 inch shell. And it looks like too. If it were 4.5, it would look funky with those lugs. That is a name I haven't seen, and again, it looks like a Star. **EDIT: It is a Star**
It should be a good deal, bit I would like to see the interior first. Now, Are you trying to corner the market on MIJ drums? 'Cause if that is so....we are gonna need to keep in close touch on all the MIJ stuff for sale. There are many of us here and we don't need to kill other over bidding wars. That is a nice, clean drum.

I'm not trying to corner the MIJ market!!! It is a big market to try and corner!!! These drums lately(Coronet & Saturn) have come available around my immediate area so if I see something that catches my eye, I like to inquire about them. Now that I'm a forum member, I like to get professional opinions, like yours, regarding some of these drums. I haven't yet purchased anything from ebay or such. You don't have to worry about my bidding!! Lol.

I ain't no perfeshunal....but I do like to keep my eye on what's out there. Too bad the rest of the kit is not available to you. And really, they are not as prevalent as one might think. In many areas of the country they are. I live in OKC, and I can't beat them out of the attics!

There are only a handful in the big scheme of things regarding MIJ DRUMS.Most drummers would,nt give these a second look,and i expect that to stay this way forever.They are only of interest to us because they are quite affordable in comparison,plus we have cleared the "snobbery hurtle".They can be made to sound passable and do sound great when recorded.So at a fraction of the cost of the big 4,these make sense,especially since most of us are,nt taking them on a lengthy road tour.Lets be brutally honest here,most of us wish Ludwig,Rogers etc were priced lower,but thats not going to happen in our life time...I just bought a BDP Apollo snare to match a kit,and did so for no other reason.I paid 20 bucks for an 8 lug decent snare drum.Would i pay 150 for it?..NEVER.Would i pay 150 for a Ludwig?..Of course i would,but i dont need it.There is no right or wrong with accumulating MIJ gear,and i dont believe any of us that do,would never be so indulgent to assume this stuff is better than a Rogers or a Gretsch.All we,re saying is a lot of it really aint bad sounding when you work it a little,and thats all im saying:2Cents:
I see the Saturn snare on kijiji.Is anyone planning on picking it up?I wont be,but i think at 50 bucks its a tad steep.I think 30-35 tops.As a backup or practise drum what can you buy new for 30.00 that would fit the bill?

Yeah I'm picking it up on Fri. It's a very clean drum.

I'm finally able to post some pics. I replaced the top and bottom skins. Edges aren't in bad shape at all. Some rough spots. This is a very clean snare. Tuned it up and it sound like a true MIJ!!!
