snare wires for leedy broadway (40's era?)

Loading...

Hey everybody, I'm new to this site so any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm having a hard time finding snare wires that will work for this drum. I know puresound makes extended snares for the old Radioking model but I was wondering if anyone knew if these would work on the Leedy??

The Puresounds for the Radio King that uses regular snare cord on both ends should work fine. They are the same length as the Leedy snares. The metal tab ones are too stiff and won't work correctly with the Leedy snare throwoff, so stick with the cord type on both ends and you'll be good as new. Cool Dude

I found Radio King Extended Length Snare - 16 Strand on Puresound's site. Is this correct? They have metal endplates so that cord can be used.

Bill if you have a leedy broadway standard use the Custom 14" 16 strand snare wires! Here is what they look like on mine!! and here's the link! http://store.daddario.com/category/114782?language_id=1¤cy_id=1

This is an option as well, but it defeats the design of the drum. The design of the drum incorporated extended length snares originally to try and make the drum more responsive, and it does work.

I stick with my original statement of using the Puresound Vintage Radio King wires, you won't be disappointed.

Yes those are the ones you are looking for.

well right that's exactly why I asked. I could have bought any 14 inch wires but it completely defeats the purpose of the design. I didn't spend all this time refurbishing the rest of it to just get lazy in that aspect. I appreciate all feedback though don't get me wrong. Again thank you

Exactly! Its like when people put regular snare wires on a Rogers Dynasonic snare instead of the correct snare frame setup because either they don't understand the design or just don't want to spend the money on the correct thing. DOH BTW, if you do put regular snare wires on a Dynasonic, they sound HORRIBLE! Put it back the way its supposed to be and they sound WONDERFUL! I'm sure that has much to do with the fact that they don't have snare beds on a Dynasonic.

While regular snare wires on a Leedy Broadway would sound ok, putting the correct extended length snares on it make it sound even better, because it is now working as the designers intended it to. There is a sonic difference and much worth getting the correct type of snare wires refitted to the drum.

Hey if all else fails...make your own. :)

This is for a Parallel but I guess if you had to have it perfect and nothing else could be found, making your own is a option for a Standard too.

30's Radio King - 26, 13, 13, 16
49 - WFL Ray McKinley - 26, 13, 16
58 - Slingerland Duco
58 - Slingerland Krupa Deluxe
70 - Ludwig Champagne Sparkle - 20, 12, 14
70 - Ludwig Champagne Sparkle - 22 (need), 13, 16
And some others..
