New Remo Ambassador Dead?

From Randydrummer

AQUARIAN!!!Please do yourself a favor and try Aquarian. They do not use glue to bind their drumheads to the collar so you will not get a "dead" head. Check out this page.http://www.aquariandrumheads.com/products/drumhead-guide-comparison

Ummm....actually they do use glue to mount the head to the hoop. Eye Ball

The difference is in the type of glue and the fact that the hoop has a special channel in it to help said glue keep from pulling out. I think the dead issue in question with Remo has more to do with the particular mylar they are using now as opposed to the glueing method though. The mylar that Aquarian uses just seems to sound better to my ears. Plus they have that "sound curve" thing going on, whereas Remo has a particular edge to there heads.....the Aquarians seem to be more forgiving when seating and tuning up than Remos do.

Yes you can get dead heads, but the head needs time to break in I've noticed this more lately since all manfactures are using different glues and plastics now they last longer but have a longer breakin period!, or go back to the emperor!

Head break-in time with plastic heads?? Never heard of that before.....calfskin yes, plastic not really. You are using the old push on the head until it stops crackling while tuning up method aren't you? No "break-in" required if you do that. BTW, I've only ever had to do that with Remo and Evans heads. This is why I use either Aquarian or Ludwig's weathermaster heads. Both tune up easy and stay there.

L-D you are not a giging drummer are you, your statement tells me that already, Plastic heads all plastic heads have a breakin period!! read Neil Peart interview, his drum tech after putting on new heads will play Neil's drums for a good 30 minutes to wear or break in the heads!! same with John Bonham he would not play a new head, and that is only 2 examples, and thank you for knowing how I tune, That must be your tuning method, that sure Isn't mine!!! and I probably have more aquarian heads here at my house than you do at yours???, and I don't like them they are to plastic sounding to my ear, I use remo and ludwig heads thank you and always will, and by the way aquarian is now made in mexico!! So honestly as far as I am concerned this was just another pointless rant of yours!!!LoLoLoLoHmmmmLame

vintagemore2000 & Ludwig-dude - Earlier this week I may have misunderstood someone’s writing on a thread that I posted on and then when I tried to explain, my writing may have been misunderstood by some others. On this note I hope we can strive to see through our writing to the intended meaning on this one. I hope there is just some misunderstanding going on here. I know this isn't really my place to speak but I've learned from you both and appreciate your posts! I'll mind my own business now...

Where does this come from???!!!???????

FYI I AM a gigging drummer....have been for 20 years! And I've NEVER had to worry about a "break-in" period with the brands of heads I use...which as I stated is Aquarian or Ludwig. I DO know how to tune drums, so why don't you just chill bro! Eye Ball

This response of yours I think is totally UNCALLED FOR!

I will admit I have grown very weary of our childish behavior! I responded to your comment (quote)Head break-in time with plastic heads?? Never heard of that before.....calfskin yes, plastic not really. You are using the old push on the head until it stops crackling while tuning up method aren't you!! and as you stated I know how to tune! as I stated Now Aquarians are made in mexico!! look No offense I've been playing longer than you have more experience than you, so what works for me is time tested, and what works for you good! but like it or Not REMO is the largest head manufacturer in the world!! You use any product you wish , But I'm not a beginner and as I stated I' probably have more Aquarian heads sitting here than you do at your house! and you sound like a commercial TAP TEST DO YOU REALLY BELIEVE THAT????? So if I buy a guitar string and it doesn't already have a tone to it in the package it is no good!! Yeah right!! so if i use this same example then all calf heads are junk! since they have no tone, until mounted?? And L-D you where correct my previous post was UN called for!! my apologies!

Ok whatever dude. I know what works for me and after having issues with Remo for years I KNOW I will never go back to them, largest company or not. GM is the largest auto manufacturer, but that doesn't mean they make quality products either, so biggest doesn't mean the best.

Toyota is not GM!! and once again it's your opinion, and it's my opinion, and the market dictates and remos are more popular than Aquarian like it or not but that is that! they are OEM on more major companies!! so you don't like them, I go thru heads often enough I have had no problems with remos, like evans they are always change there process! you know enough of this use what makes you happy because I sure am!

I have attack heads on my toms....and an aquarian for the front of my kick

I think my 16 top is a slingerland head..... the top of my 18" tom is a hydraulic made by evans. bottom of the 18 is something i pulled out of a bargain bin for 5 bucks.
