Acrylic pre-Tam snare; need help!

Loading...

It's been sitting in my closet for the last 25 years or so.Today i decided to give it an overall clean up.I found out that the bearing edges were in bad useless shapes, plus, there is no snare beds????No wonder why it 'sounded' like Hmmmm.Anyway!,have to redo them before putting new heads on .My question is :what would be the most appropriated B.E. and S.B. shape design ,knowing that this is acrylic?

Very recently there was a discussion on this topic, seen here: http://vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=11853

As for the beds, I would say use the same contours as a Fibes or Vista, that should yeild a great result. That is a cool drum, too bad you don't have the rest of the kit. Star Crystalites are, IMHO, so much cooler than Vistas because there are so few left in really good condition. Occasionally one comes up on the bay and they quickly bring around 500-650, if a good, complete set, which is a great price.

Others will say they are nothing more than a cheap attempt at another copy of Ludwig, but who cares what the naysayers spew?:p The fact is, I have seen more of these without spider cracks than I have Vistalites, as an overall percentage, if that says anything. I don't know what keeps them from cracking so much, or what is it that makes the Luds and Fibes crack so bad, but it has to be something. I wonder if it is the choice of drilling method or the torque used at the time of lugging up, or maybe just a different component in the acrylic? All I know is they are not as prone to spider cracks as Vistas or Fibes.

Hi jonnistix! I'd like to have the rest of the kit. Like you i think they look cool, but not to many around up here , in fact i never seen one. I keep an eye on freebay we never know, all depend of the price and the shipping .Ya know?... For the snare,i will intend to make a 45'inside bevel and just a little round over on the outside, about 1/16 inche and then we'll see..... Thanks for the link, that was very interesting
