Questions about a Gretsch 5pc set

From kevins

Where are you located, someone on this forum may be close, and interested in the set ??...........

We're in Melbourne, Florida (he's just west of the Eau Gallie causeway)....and anyone on this forum is more than welcome to send me a pm if they're interested :)

He watches Pawn Stars and American Pickers all the time so he might try to get you to buy a teapot or a pallet of roofing shingles with the deal :D

We're both lazy musicians, so don't worry about us trying too hard to complete the set. He has lots of musician friends and does alot of guitar buying/selling/trading so all he'd have to do is put out the word what he's looking for and someone may know a guy that knows a guy. I could help him do a few quick ebay & amazon searches for the hoop & snare and if nothing shows up, then we would list it exactly the way you said.

By the way, is there a vintagetrumpetforum.com?

I have a nice Bach Stradivarius trumpet (Elkhart Model 37) that I played in high school (early 70's). I'd love to find out what it's worth and maybe try to sell it. The bell had some damage and was repaired but everything else has been kept well oiled and shined.

Will do! And thanks again very much for helping me sort thru it :)

I'll talk to him tomorrow, and unless he has someone lined up to buy it already, I'll probably post it in the for sale section here Monday morning.

I'll wait to see if anyone here is interested before posting it on ebay/amazon/etc.

And any member who helped me in this thread will get a free student snare with the kit Laughing H

Check with member Jaye. He has a site from which he buys and sells all sorts of musical instruments, and I think trumpets are another of his specialities.

Cool! I'll check it out.

It has sentimental value to me, but the only thing I can play on it anymore is taps and that one at the start of horse races :D

Other than brand-specific forums, I can think of trumpetmaster.com and trumpetherald.com . Assuming it's in decent shape, I'd guess your Strad would probably sell in the $1000 ballpark, give or take a hundred or so. If it was just a few years older and was made in Mt. Vernon, NY before Selmer bought Bach, it would likely be worth more.

I've actually been keeping an eye out for a bargain on a used trumpet, but yours would be way out of my price range.
