1969 Strate Ludwig Standard , Drums only Value??

Loading...

I have an opportunity to buy a 1969 Ludwig Standard good condition bronze strata set including snare (matching), floor tom, 2 toms, and bass drum. Includes all mounting hardware. just no pedal, or chair or cymbal equipment.

Any idea what this is worth ?? I see 60's ludwig sets going for $1000+ on ebay..But have not seen this old ludwig standard set listed. Here is a video of what it basically looks like

similar to video but except i would get an extra tom , and I don't think the bass drum is as deep front to back.

The sizes are 22,12,13,16 and 14 " snare

400-500 would be a really good price, if in really good condition, maybe a little more. So...if you get us real pix of the rreal set, maybe we can give you a real close number really soon.

Re: the kick drum size - As far as I know they had 2 sizes [per the catalog listings I've seen] ~ 20" & 22" , both listed as 14" deep. The kick in the vid *looks* like the smaller 20" [i cood b rong] - if the bass your getting is the 22", it would probably seem not as deep. Optical Illusion?

Price/value wise, I'm not much help (no expert) - I paid $35.00 for a shell [lugs incl.] but did need to spend more for rims and a tone control. In retrospect, I maybe spent too much, but it's a nice shell, great wrap w/ the intact lugs in good shape (except tom mount bolts were stripped). - - Not that this is a very good guide, but after getting vintage parts, etc. it was over $85 - Soooo.... I'd have to agree that 400-500 seems about right +/- depending on the bits & pieces.

They are a nice, "rare" finish, those Stratas - some more than others. I'd maybe take the fade factor into consideration (pull a lug?) - to me it seems that some colors fade worse than others. I'd think the bronze, short of real prolonged abuse & exposure to light/heat, would probably hold up better than alot of the blues & rubies I've seen. To me, I've seen some horrible fades that kinda take away from the point of investing in Stratas - the "looks cool" factor is a big part of the value for these, i think.

As far as value vs. $$$ - That's a personally intrinsic thing, as in "what are they worth to you?" - I'm basically a creep  in that I think some sellers are asking waaaay too much. But I do see strata prices edging up.

Scrutinize the details. [throw, muffs, arms & legs, wrap, nuts & bolts, etc.] - the more work you gotta put into it, the lower the price should be.

Maybe $600 tops if it's all really nice
