what is wrong with the shell+what type strainer is on it??

It appears that it cracked where the marching "sling" was attached.Cooked Egg The strainer was a ludwig classic nickle. I didn't assume it was a stock part: there are extra holes in the shell grouped together. I'll post some pics right quick; waiting for paint stripper to "reveal" the wrap. Kleening

1stshot is where strainer was mounted, top hole is filled. Other 2 pics are inside and outside of damage.CryBaby Residue on both sides is of course:duct tape. They taped over the hole and then painted the drum,(tape and all)but, took time to remove the lugs before painting. Pretty snazzy,huh? Legend has it that this drum was dropped off the bus because they were fighting over who got to march with the Ludwig.Yes Sir

has those repros for less than $4....and they are the same ones sold on all the other sites...I am pricing a build, so have been looking at all the builder sites, asking questions, etc. I suppose if purchased individually, they would be $6 or more each, with shipping, but I tend to buy in bulk, so the shipping is roughly the same for 16 as for 1-2.

Those originals will bring the bucks, if they clean up nicely, tho.

That shell would be repairable. Since that is where the sling goes, it would be ok for use as a kit drum, or you flip all the hardware around and re-use, but I am thinking it would be more work than it is worth. As a shell for some project, eh...could be salvaged, but it won't have the same appeal. It is a project, and as such, you might be better off dstripping it and parting out. I am not a proponent of stripping, but in this case, yeah, the integrity of the shell and the fact it is a field drum make worth more that way.

What size it is?? also Field drums get no respect, and frankly I don't understand that:confused: the shell would not be that hard to repair!! and would make a great bebop tom??? Put it back to use, one days work and you have a vintage slingerland ready to serve!!!

Ok, so, What do I clean these nickle lugs with? :confused:I have a super power grinder that I will be using as a polisher when I figure out how to mount it on the work bench.

I used my demel tool with a buff puff on it!! the medium one not the hard ones, probably the same with yours!! you'll need to remove all the hardware to do it!!
