Crashable rides

Yeah, Gerry (hazelshould) can sure write up some good press ! he's a good guy, funny a shell too...but I dunno...that's just a straight up more-or-less contemporary Avedis and 90% of those I have tried or heard have been really disappointing. I wouldn't go for it. For that dollar you can get a nice handmade....

I thought the price was a bit high. I am comfortable with Zildjian A's because I know I like them. I do have experience with Paiste but that is about it. To stay in my comfort zone I think I will try to find an old 22" Avedis with a nice big bell 2600 grams or under.

I dunno, Lud..I mean...seems like you hit harder than I do and play a different context, so maybe the Sweet is appropriate for you. For me (and my Firth SD4 Swingers) it made a nice ride...pretty darn decent, actually, for a new Zildjian....but just didn't crash well for me.

I am not familiar with the sticks you use but I use the same brand but 5A's. I guess I do hit somewhat hard but not always. That is why I am looking for a versatile cymbal.

The crazy part about Guitar Center is that you can buy a used cymbal out of state and return it to a local GC within 30 days for a full refund. You do lose on shipping though. I wouldn't beat the cymbal to death and try it but it is a nice option. It would get costly doing this too often though.

Does anyone have experience with Sabian 21" HHX vintage models?

...if you think about it - that's not a terrible deal, really. Sorta like a worst-case scenario of 'renting' a cymbal to play for 3 weeks for the price of shipping....

(SD4's are smaller tipped and acorn-shaped as opposed to barrel-shaped, and lighter than 5A's with a different weight distribution across the stick)

It's a really good deal. If you don't like the product at least your not stuck with it. It would get expensive if you couldn't make up your mind though lol.

I use an Armand ride (19"with 3 rivets) for a crash. It is a medium thin weight, and sounds great.

I think crash rides are great but a bit dangerous- they can get too loud if you don`t control your touch. I like a Dream 19" Vintage Bliss as a crash ride- does both ride and crash nicely.

My two main cymbals, both 50's K's, a 16" and a 17 1/2" are just cymbals. I use them for anything and everything from ride to crash to mallets to cup to violin bow.

I am of the "cymbal is just a cymbal" thinking and I don't have room on my set for a cymbal that only does one thing.

I've done gigs with just the 17 1/2". I've been hitting it for near 40 years and each time it's a sound I have never heard before.

Me too, but in my case it's short-term memory loss........

I have a 21" 60s Zildjian A ride that works really well as a crash/ride. I set it up as a crash when I have my 24" A ride up, and it's a wonderful crash. It's a super silky ride as well, nice wash / understated ping.
