I am Tired of seeing DW drums

Loading...

I think what DW has created is the same and I hate to use the word, but phenomenon that Ludwig had after Ringo was seen playing them. Although I think DW has gone out and actively tried to make it that way. Not that Ludwig didn't take advantage of the Ringo thing, I think it just fell in their laps as DW has created this by putting their product everywhere, creating the same "if so and so plays them, then I need to play them too" mentality/philosophy.....

Which, and my opinion only, is one of the reasons why Tama, Pearl and Yamaha caught on, late 70's and through the 80's. Everyone was sick of Ludwig, quality issues aside and another debate altogether.

Everyone gets their turn, right now its DWs fifteen minutes....

Vintagemore....just give it up. I am NEVER going to tell you that I like the sound of DW drums! I just plain don't like the carbon copy tin can sound that I hear out of those drums no matter how much you tout John Good, etc. I'm not interested in wasting my money on DW or their hardware. (I have wasted my money on their hardware in the past and never will again. FYI it was the 5000 double braced series from the late 1990's not exactly bottom of the line at the time.) I don't care who makes the heads for them (Remo has been crap for years and I will never go back to them), nor do I care how many thousands of kinds of materials they are made out of or how many "custom" finishes you can get them in. They don't interest me, PERIOD.If I'm gonna spend that kind of money on a modern drum kit its going to be either a USA Custom Gretsch kit or an Eames kit, NOT a DW.Obviously they have you snowed as much as the rest of the studio "engineers" out there.......most studio "engineers" wouldn't know a good drum sound if it fell from the sky and clobbered them in the head! These are the guys that STILL to this day tell you to cut a hole in the front head of your bass drum and stuff it with pillows and duct tape the heck out of your toms and cymbals to get a "good" studio sound. Duct tape is for HVAC ductwork, NOT drums and cymbals, pillows are for sleeping on and NO ONE is EVER going to cut a hole in the from head of MY bass drum! DOH

SO ludwig-dude, it all comes down to nothing but your opion, you owned middle of the line hardware and thats your experience with dw pitiful at best, snowed ah, any time you want to go toe toe let me know i'll bring my d kit you bring whatever re wrap vintage tubs you want, i look forward to the day!!! you have little to no experience with the drums it's all just you pal!!!FYIFYIViolinDOH

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

It seems you lack knowledge on DW yourself......the 5000 series was the top of the line hardware at the time. There was no 9000 series until recently. And that stuff weighs about as much as a sherman tank. I'll let you break your back lugging that stuff around. I have played DW drums over the years, just never owned them. I don't like the sound, so they will never get my money because of that. I don't like their hardware because its cheaply made and doesn't hold up long term.

BTW, this is a VINTAGE drum forum....so VINTAGE will win the battle here EVERY time. Excited

How do you know who wins? This is so funny to read. It's just drums, man. Why are you so bent out of shape? Ludwigdude likes his drums and you like dw. That is not a reason for you people to be upset.

Wow is this a great thread or what? hehehehehehe i feel evil.... Cool1 I am hearing alot of stuff with very little hitting the note of truth.. pitted snares (ludwig) Hmmmm when DW has any snaredrum out of their 300 (and that is the problem why have so many) that is as popular as a ludwig Supra call me i will buy one... the statement of saying DW has 300 snares is exactly my point why ? make a good line of 4,5 or even 6 snares and sell them at a fair market price there is no need for 300, their footpedals ? lol why does everyone still like the speedking? My point is this and this goes back to the original post why do they make so much stuff they are woerse than the japan drums in the 70,s most if not all their gear is a copy of somebody elses and i am just tired of their BS, give away drums to every drummer who plays to more than 200 people and call yourself the greatest !

There are many good drum products out there and most of them are vintage and it all still works great.. i have played Rogers drums for over 45 years i NEVER, NEVER broke a cymbal stand or tilter no plastic there... NEXT!

I've owned a 5000 pedal for 10 years, so try again???. and now it is middle of the line they have 9000 series now

I've owned a Speed King for 30 (the same one) and a Ghost for 20, and they were both well used when I got them, and they are still going strong without a problem or a squeak. The 5000 I had lasted 3 years before I needed to replace the spring AND the hinge. Both Ludwig pedals I own have needed nothing but regular lubrication, and yes the DW I had got that too.....I'm sorry you just don't have me convinced about the quality of the hardware, nor the quality of the sound of the drums.

You can corner the market on DW for all I care. I stated my opinion on the subject several times and all I get in return is a commercial. I've used it, I've played it, I still don't like it. And I am done with this thread.....

Next person with a valuable opinion please? :D
