Most endorsee's LOL what a joke that is all that means is they give away more drums than any other company, good advertisment yes, does not mean a thing about their drums, most people will use free stuff they are very well run company , i am more i nterested in why people pay so much for them as they are IMO and i have played them ,hard to tune and their rims mount and hanging floor toms really suck, they flop around like a fish pout of water. Just ask Ginger Baker who also swapped out all the heads for remos when Cream had their reunion (and yes i understand heads do not make the drum but it was just one more thing with DW on it ...

OK so all this is just my opinion i understand but bottom line is they are over priced and all their hardware is way to heavy and bulky..

OH i also think their lugs are just fugly... :)

I understand that sound is subjective.....and personally I do not like the sound (or price!) of DW drums.

I'll stick with my Ludwigs for 1/3 the cost and 100% better sound quality, thank you very much.

Now for the ones who state that DW hardware is "awesome"......how many vintage DW stands do you see on the market and how many vintage Ludwig stands do you see? DW pedals do not last, the speed king and ghost are tanks and last practically forever. I've seen so many broken and worn out DW 5000 pedals on ebay over the years, and the stands are not made very well at all anymore either since they are made in china now (but then again what isn't??). True store....a drummer friend of mine uses DW hardware with his GMS kit....most of it is under 2 years old and has been replaced twice already on all of it! I still have my Atlas hardware for my 70's Ludwig kit, and I still have the Hercules hardware from my 80's Ludwig kit and it is far from being worn out!

Again....Ludwig, Ludwig, Ludwig! Storm Trooper

Yeah i don't care who endorses what i was answering two of you at the same time, first, Dw has an entire line of drums quality and price wise as does every manufacturer, they have an entire hardware line from sturdy and heavy to light and sturdy, as does everyone else, So all I've gotten out of this is your Prejudice toward DW that's it. and in fact drum heads have very much to do with how your drums sound?? and remo makes dw's heads?LoLoLoLo

I am not prejudice against DW, I just don't see the quality in the hardware that is claimed......and again, I don't like the sound of the drums, period. That is my opinion, I am entitled to it and I again state I will keep my Ludwigs till the day I die before I even CONSIDER owning a set of DWs.

Look at it this way, more DWs for you!

Absolutly i also enjoy the debate as I stated i want to hear from other drummers as to their opinions on DW. Let me restate that ALL of todays Hardware is way overbuilt ,bulky , and to heavy ,not just DW's but as they seem to be top dog i directed it at them.. i have not heard from anyone yet as to the rims mounts ,hanging floortoms, odd sizes of floor tom (as opposed to the standard sizes.. I guess what i am saying in point is DW has not invented anything new but took over a market when the old great drum makers were being put out of business by cheaper drums . So if they have not invented anything wheres the beef for the buck? i think it is Hype smoking mirrors, like alot of the american products and things we buy everyday.

I understand that heads do make drums HMMM why did Baker switch em out after the first night if they are made by the same company? must be some difference..

Mike here is a pic of one of my bottom heads read the logo. also dw has so many innovations in them I would be here all night, what bass drum pedal isn't a rip off of there cam design from the 5000 series, you sighted hanging toms, odd size floor toms rims mounts system, my kit has not one of those features, 16x24', 10X14",16X16 AND 16X18" IT'S A ROCK KIT AND THATS WHAT IT DOES,, custom ordered!! and the rims mount is one of the most used there is! dw didn't design it? Thanks

I am another that is tired of seeing DW everywhere I look. How can that many drummers afford them? I realize drumming is not for the less than affluet=nt anymore, if you want top quality gear. A good, not great, but decent quality guitar can be had for a couple hundred bucks, and an OK, listenable amp for a little more. Say 5-750 and you have a listenable set up. You can't get a complete and decent set of new drums and cymbals, enough drum gear to have what is considered "complete" for that, in listenable quality drum gear today. And DW stuff, IMO, is not handsome stuff. Again, it is my opinion. I really think they sound rather flat, no real character.

I spent several hours going through my old MIJ kit this weekend in an effort to finally sort out my tuning issue, since I have not done it after the restoration. It takes time to tune after this major overhaul, and we all know it. I changed the configuration of my shells, so it took time to sort it out. I found they have a very deep and thunderous voice and tone, now that I actually did the tuning according to Bob Gatzen. Anyway, I prefer the warmth of old wood to new, heavy plywood. And somewhere I was reading that the "new drums" are "better" because they have heavier shells, more "durable"...and they sound like DWs, all of them. Except some of the new, "old" shell designs. They have a warmth approaching our beloved drums. Group Hug

I finally found that these thin shells sound really good, once finished and properly tuned. All of the modern, thick ply shells don't.....:2Cents:
