1994 Ludwig Maple Super Classic Blue Marble & Paiste cymbals

Loading...

I have the set that was featured on the cover of the 94 catalog for sale. I can't play any longer due to health, so I want these babys to go to a real drummer that understands what a pro-line set is used for and how to take care of it. I've had them stored in cases for the better part of the past 10 years.

These are the NC Maple pro-line badge in the hand-painted Blue marble finish. I've been advised by a few Ludwig reps that it's a very rare set ( I only saw one other in 15 years and that was in 1994 at a show). The blue marble was not very common due to the hand-painting involved. The drums are the deep 4-ply Super Classic with long lugs. I also have all of the cases and hardware shown below. There are 4 rack toms, floor tom, snare, and 22" base. I used these drums almost exclusively for recording, they were used out 3 times and are in great condition (I used a different "beater" set for the road, these only saw 3 showcase gigs).

I also have the following 80s Paiste cymbals... 22" rude ride, 14" soundedge HH, 2002 medium, 2002 heavy crash, red color crash, 2002 china type, 2002 crash, etc. There is also many accessories such as tamborine mount LP cowlbell, chimes, etc. These cymbals were tone selected over the course of years, and compliment the set in an impressive way; hence, the reason I do not want to part out if possible. The drums and cymbal package work very well together. Someone looking for a recording custom set has it here, already built to emphasize those legendary maple tones.

The hardware is primarily Ludwig and some Tama Titan. This is a rare set that I dont want to just sell to anyone, especially those that do not know what it is. Here are a few pictures and I included a scan of the cover of the catalog showing the set (the 4th rack tom was not used and is pictured sitting on the trap case). It really is an incredible sounding and beautiful set (best I ever heard for recording, period). Hope this set can find a home with a collector or real drummer. Included with set is the "Ludwig Book" by Rob Cook and the entire Ludwig Catolog series on CD compiled by Clay Greene. There are a few other toys to boot. I'm accepting offers for the whole set. A year ago, I priced this set including cymbals, cases, etc. without the rare finish and old super classic build, it would've cost over $8,000.

It's not about the "money" here folks... it's about giving this kit the respect it is due. No reasonable offer made by the "right" drummer will be refused.

I also have a Yamaha DTXtreme II set with the ms100DR amp system that I'm going to part with as well, if anyone is interested.

The finish is really something to see when under the lights. It was so unusual, I had to write the check. I never really saw a finish like it before or since. That's the primary reason for wanting them to go to a good home. In my opinion... this set is one of the classics from the history of Ludwig and must be properly preserved as such. The North Carolina Super Classic maple tones the best I've heard, and simply a side product to the impressive finish.

For those interested... the drums can be packaged anyway you prefer. If you want to cut down on weight, we can talk about dropping some of the additional hardware that did not come with the original set such as the Tama titan booms, throne, etc. If you want the drum kit only, make an offer without the cymbals. I can always move those relatively easy.

Plenty of options here, as long as they go to a good home; hence, the reason I will not post on an auction website. My only rule is they must go to a collector or professional.

I had the Drum Shop price a similar new 7 piece Ludwig Maple Pro-Line set and the retail was $4,800... so I set the price at 1/3rd retail for this set. I've had a few inquiries, so I'll simply provide a price list for the set as follows...

$1,600 for the 7 piece set and tom mounts (easiest to ship under $180 cost to CA)

$1,750 for the 7 piece set including all original Ludwig hardware (snare stand, 2 cymbal stands, bass pedal, highhat stands). (approx $200 shipping)

I also have the following cymbals remaining that can be added on to the set. The prices are negotiable for larger package deals (I already moved two of the 18" cymbals shown in the above pictures).

$150: 14" 2002 Sound Edge High Hats

$125: 22" Rude Ride

$125: 20" Black Label 2002 China Type

$100: 16" Color Sound Crash

$50: 16" Paiste Alpha Crash

I feel that is a pretty fair price for this considering the finish; however, I'm willing to work with the right buyer. If interested, email: ussteeloh@aol.com
