Snare wires and the like

Loading...

Gonedrumming, gave me this idea for the thread, he was forced to make his own, snare wires for a vintage leedy parallel snare drum he has,And Honestly this is a big deal, why have either some of us or a boutique builder not addressed this very market, most of the vintage drums that exist now are going on 50 to 100 years old and most need or will need quality snare wires The vintage guitar guys would have been on something like this long long ago!!! I know puresound has this market addressed, but the original company and the puresounds now sold by D'ADDARIO aren't the samething they don't sound the same. if somome where to make snare wires out of high grade metal such as steel, brass, copper, zinc, other metals if desired, american designed, built, this isn't rocket science, why is this not being done????Violinsinger

hmmmm, I wonder if you check with the brothers who play for the top tier symphonies- I bet they have connections to a maker. The precision I have glimpsed in their snare gear choices is unimaginable.

For myself, I have found vintage snappy wires to be generally heavy and too stiff for my appreciation.

For cable wires- I like the Pearl and also the Grover (light) models. The Grover light cable wires are so delicate that a powerful accent on the snare caused one (cable) of mine to actually break and shoot off- very delicate but a good sound.

For snappys I like a very odd thing- the very cheapest Pearl 20 strand replacement model. Thin, light and sensitive. I have them now on most of my snares - I can hear a difference. With that said I am a fan of cable wires as well.
