I,ve looked at them also.For 1700 thats a great deal,,,,except the 18"deep bass drum is just not something i,d be happy with.I will never understand them offering these beauties with NO optionsCoffee Break2

I can vouch for Purewood African Mahogany. I have a 6pc (Gretsch Renown) with 6ply shells - die-cast rims and matching Purewood bd hoops in UV Gloss. The sound is incredible - the 1822 bd is thunder. I can't imagine playing nicer drums. I've sat behind a lot very beautiful drums kits and this one is as good (better that many) as any I've had the pleasure playing.
The 5ply Pearl AM look 'sweet' and Pearl drums are amoung the best in my books.

Gary...is your kit 100% AM?..Is that series still available?...No argument regarding Pearl...They,ve come so far in the industry,im not sure if anyone can touch them now.

Yes - they're 100% AM - 6ply drums. No - they're discontinued. There were only 60 shellpacks made in the two configs. (6pc & 4pc) for worldwide distribution in 2007. I jumped on it quick and almost missed the train - I was told I got the last shelpack availible in Canada - from the Taiwan facotry. I was all set to order a Custom USA shellpack and then I saw - on the internet - an advert and read some info on the drums....and I went for the Purewoods......never regretted it.
