Need help IDing 1920s Snare Drum...

Loading...

So,...I picked up a Ludwig P-338 strainer,.. it some sin,.. and,...

....DOESN"T FIT THE STRAINER HOLES IN THIS SHELL?????DOH

However, the holes that "do" line up are the holes from a P-83 strainer I have?

Not being very familiar with the P-38,... when did they first arrive on the scene/first used? I was thinking in the 1960s?

So, being that its certainly a two piece shell, (ie, from the 1920s) BUT the P-338 strainer does NOT fit the strainer holes,.... what in the world strainer would this thing have used?

The one thing that occured to me was that maybe it might actually be a Leedy-Strupe snare? Did they make Leedy-Strupe 6 lugs back then though? The reason I say this is that I looked on the Vintage Drum website and found a snare that looks like it has holes that are as far apart as this shell of mine,.. but was made in the 1920s?

Other than that,... anyone have any ideas,.. help,.. comments?

Thanks guys.

Here's the snare I referred to as far as the strainer goes,... looks like "MAY BE" as far apart as the Ludwig P-83's holes are??...then again, maybe not???

My initial idea was Ludwig, but yeah, the butt is kind of weird,.... never saw that on a Ludwig or Leedy??

My Ludwig & Ludwig from the '20s has that butt.
