From Mike T

I get so tired of nay sayers and ill willers, Dude if this set really excists 1500.. is a fair price 1800 is not missing hoops a few scratches etc, other than that tell people to P_ss up a rope if they try to low ball you ask them to find another Tophat set period... Cleveland drums are the best ever made, and ones with beavertail lugs are the very best someone will want this set just be patient.. everyone told me my Fullerton Londoner in WMP was not worth 1500 it was cherry i said then you find one in as good a shape for less and buy it... just be patient it will sell...

thanks for that. its a good set and its in great condition. and i do have the hoops and the hardware for them, i just dont have heads to attach them with at the moment.

i mean people here are acting like im adding a couple thousand to the value and refusing to lower it when i hear its worth less than i think. ive been doing quite the opposite.

INTERNETKING

With all due respect. You are new to a forum and place (the internet) where with reason, suspicion is normal until you prove yourself to be reliable in demeanor and practice. This is a community and as such, people expect honesty from others. Trust is earned through beneficial interaction within the communtiy. Goodwill is then created and the community becomes a safe place in a dangerous world.

Hey, you have a nice drum kit there!

Here's a tip.. Start a new forum asking for some advice on how to put your lovely Rogers kit in tip-top shape. There are many experts here who love what you have and would like to see that kit be reborn. In the process, you may discover that you like restoring vintage drums? At the very least, with photos of a newly refurbished kit to show off in the Gallery and gaining the respect of some nice people, you'll have gained some friends in a really cool community!

Then, offer the kit for sale at a decent, fair price (ask others what they think it's worth), ship it securely and promptly and await the good reviews you will get. You'll be a happy dude and so will so many others here. Happy for you man! Happy that you can be trusted and respected and happy with what you sold them...

If you don't want to clean it up, then sell it for a couple hundred less, because the person you sell it to will have to spend 15-20 hours on it of their time, in other words a couple hundred bucks labour to bring it up to standard. If you put in the 15-20 hours needed for clean up, then maybe it's worth $1400-$1500.

If you sell it as is, then $1200-$1300 maybe?

I write this in hope for your acceptance and to help you discover some great folks who want to help and enjoy you and what you have in vintage drums.

Same set offered on another forum at one point for $1200! I respectfully disagree with the $1500 price tag. In the condition shown they are not valued at that level. You could find sets in better condition for that price and less. Ebay has WMP set for $1500 w/free ship that is in much better shape. http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Rogers-Holiday-Dayton-Cleveland-era-drums-EC_W0QQitemZ170454352826QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVintgae_Drums_Percussion?hash=item27afdf03baBy the way, he offered this to me for $1400 when I sent him message....I passed!

Can you read? the link you posted is for Dayton drums and it is not a tophat set cleveland drums are the most desirable of all Rogers drums and Tophat sets no matter if you like or dislike them are very hard to find... so you find a tophat set in better condition for less and post that. and on top of it all your linked set is a rewrap.. FFS read before posting.

I agree Mike. This one started out funky, but he has come around and is getting his price way more in line. If someone doesn't like the price, I view it as dirty pool to try to point out other options to everyone on the forum in a For Sale thread.

What would happen on a car lot if some cat walked up in the middle of a deal and pointed out there is another Mustang for sale over at Charlie's place ?

thansk for adding that.

and thanks kellyj for the post. its completely understandable what you're saying there. i'm a newbie at drums and a newbie to this forum. and i completely understand if theres a lack of trust here. please try to understand that im not trying to gouge a price here or anything like that. im searching the internet and prematurely selling these things without knowing what they are and arent worth. the kits not in a bad condition if you ask me whatsoever. and i think that any restoration work on it could be done for a pretty low fee if you ask me but then again i do not know anything about this.

however i got some questions

whats the advantage of playing on a 50+year old drum set like this? how does old wood help out the sound? i know how it works and sounds on basses and guitars but no idea on how it sounds on older drums.

im willing to sell these for 1300-1400 i think the kit actually is a rarity and is a cleveland era with beavertail lugs, not only that, all the parts are present which also is a rarity(i have stated multiple times i have the hoops and the hardware with them). fixing the 4-8 paint chips that are scattered about the entire set probobly wont cost that much as any wear on it is minimal for its age

and kevins thanks for that too. im not aiming to rip off anyone here. if i did i would have just sold the snare and not told my friend about it made 400 dollars or so and bought the cymbals and stands i desperately need. i told my friend however the lowest i can get out of it is 1000 or 1200 which he is fine with. and i really do want this kit to go to someone who loves this kit and is looking for it, i dont want to deny someone that opportunity by raising the price so high that they cant get it, that would be just ****ty.

It seems we've had an awakening of sorts. I am happy to hear that you've worked through that moral delima that was the subject of your other thread. It's good for all involved to walk the ethical line.

I mentioned earlier that you will have better luck posting these on eBay and craigs list. I was serious. If you clean them up like the other member in thi thread mentioned you stand to do fairly well. Those are nice drums. They deserve a good home. I would love to have them myself but Kevins won't buy them for me. Meanie.

I was hard on you earlier because you seem to have leaned over the wrong side of the ethical line. Good to see you've worked through that. I am careful about who I do business with. Most of us are. There are those on this very forum who have not been on the up and up. We have to be careful in life. Don't take any of the posts too personally. It's mostly us protecting ourselves and each other.

Welcome to our little community of passionate vintage drummers. Pull up a chair and add a bit to the bank of wisdom.

sold for 1050, as said earlier im a newbie drummer and i have no idea on gauging a condition that something is in. the guy who bought them however did have an idea lol. he said the main problem with the kit was that first of all there was spraypaint on the powertone snare that i didnt notice(my friend spraypainted the head cause at the time he didnt know what it was) and the hoops on the bass drum were in a really shoddy condition and these hoops apparently are very hard to find. a piece of hardware had a knob or something broken off and there was a lot of wear and tear internally that i didnt know about, i do stress the paint job was immaculate though but the metal could have been taken care of better in the over 50 years of its life. thanks for all the help here and have a great day. also the guy said he was going to do a full restoration job on them and send me the pictures when they're done. which i shall post here as soon as i get them :)

In my opinion the guy got a killer deal on those drums if that's all that was wrong with them.

I also think you received a fair deal considering it would have taken + - 15-20 hours to fully detail and repair the kit. I'm looking for a Rogers kit like that and if I did not live across the country from you, I would for sure have taken a look see.

Be sure to post the photos when you get them.
