I have a Pre-serial keystone luddy bass drum with later model spurs added to it. my question is: "Are the original fold out spur brackets the same as floor tom leg brackets?"
Thanks for your help!

Poppy:
I've got two pre-serial Ludwig kits -- a Super Classic and a Clubdate.
Neither one has spur mounts that are identical to the leg mounts on the respective floor toms.
I've attached a few pics of the bass drum spur mounts on my Clubdate kit.
Hope this helps!
On my 1963 Hollywood set (pre-serial number) the floor tom leg mounts and the bass spur mounts do appear to be the same. I have not actually tried to interchange the legs but I feel sure they are the same.
your kit is not pre serial number?? and poppy no they are not the same?
Vintagemore, there are no serial numbers on any of the keystone badges. Is that not "pre-serial number", or have I misunderstood the meaning all this time.
From the Vintage Drum Guide: "Pre-serial Number Keystone Badge Early 1960 - 1963"
The spur brackets are the same as the floor tom and rack tom brackets from 1962 to about 1969, when they phased out the fold out spurs. The earlier ones shown by Old School are like the WFL style brackets and are USUALLY not fitted after 1961. I say usually because there are always exceptions to the rule... LoLoLoLo

I just went thur my ludwig catalog's from 1960- to 1963 and there are No spurs mounts such as you displayed, only the ones poppy originally displayed! as L-d stated there are exceptions but, they are not displayed in any of the catalogs i mentioned! also your kit is at the transition period from no serial number to serial numbers, the reason i say this is because the mounts you've shown are not illustrated until 1964 ludwig cataolg,, what color are your tone controls?? they should be red?
I was assuming my mounts were like the pics GG Vintage displayed. The hole spacing looks to be the same on the bass drum leg mounts as the floor tom leg mounts. I have a 62 catalog showing that they are like GG Vintage's leg mounts. My BDP kit is definatly pre-serial keystone, however the WMP FT I have been working on is 1964 serial numbered badge.
I think the moral here is; you can't make general statements about Ludwig drums and hardware. My Hollywood set is identical (except I got the Supraphonic) to the one at: http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/ludwig_drumsets_1963.html . It has no serial numbers, all drums have matching date stamps of Nov. 12, 1963 and they have red felt tone controls. But look at the Hollywood set at: http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/ludwig_drumsets_1960.html ... completely different tom leg mounting lugs.
I guess we were all correct, depending on which "vintage" we were referencing. Cheers!

GG, amen you are right,I have been collecting forever, and the school i came from vintage drums are a lot of generally what is suppose to be stock, but in reality the factory used what they had on hand, there are those now that look at the old catalogs and if it isn;t what's pictured, oh god help you!! i didn't come from that school. and that was some of my PC coming Thur. I hate PC so i'm talking general for now on, thank you for the debate much enjoyed,Bowing
