Here's a reverse variation on that scam. This type can result when you are selling drums or anything. I think the term is "re-shipping."

The buyer says they will arrange shipping to another country and send you an impressive check (bogus) for items plus the pre-paid shipping that you gleefully deposit into your bank account. Then, you must immediately wire the shipping charge (usually international rates) due to time constraints that have materialised to a so and so acting as their shipping agent at an address somewhere in the states.

Their check bounces and you have wired several hundred to a couple thousand dollars into space. But, you get to keep the merchandise which now must be "sold" again, but probably won't recoup even part of the loss.

Prior to naming out an individual, how do we know that account was not completely hi-jacked in eBay. This is common and people who create accounts, never check them or never know that someone else has hi-jacked their account to pull these scams.

I want to see the eBay listing prior to posting someones personal information.

You might have recourse with local authorities, but I'm not sure about the International situation.

Can we see the auction listing?

Sadly the cheque scam is common on this side of the pond. I've had an item listed on Mikedolbear and the same clown attempted to scam me twice! I've also had it on LOOT - which is kind of a UK craigslist - it's everywhere!!

Paypal is the only way to pay on ebay. Money grams, western union, credit card, give you no protection. Ebay may be called by some as feebay and paypal fees, but at least there's protection there.

If you are a seller you can be easily scammed courtesy of Paypal. For scammers Paypal is promise land. Just open a SNAD on the item you just bought and return a box full of newspapers or bricks. Paypal will return your money (S/H included) no question asked and you can even NEG the seller!!!

yeah, Thats Paypal...
