Hey thanks a lot. Sounds like ebay is probably the best option then. I know people have discussed the issue of restoring the painted interiors before in this forum, but it seems to usually be targeted at kits that don't have original white paint underneat. Can someone recommend the best way of going about removing the brushed-on black (looks to be acrylic to me) while preserving the white underneath? Is sanding the best idea? Or a chemical remover?

You'll not be able to save the white paint underneath, you need to get a chemical paint remover home depot, lowes etc!!, 2 things with that, you will need good ventilation, and if it is done outside the air temperature needs to be at least 70 degrees for the paint remover to work properly, good luck!

Do not go to Ebay!!!. The fees are going to kill you, they might put a hold on you for 21 days (and sometimes 180 days) . they are going to ask you for your SSN. they will require from you to give'em a back up credit card where they can steal from you. Not to mention that the buyer can return a box of rocks and get his money back (shipping included) courtesy of Paypal. AVOID EBAY AND PAYPAL LIKE THE PLAGUE!!!

Well, I already have an ebay account and use it quite frequently. If prices will be that depressed elsewhere, I'll bite the bullet and use ebay. Their seller fees are 9% of total value not to exceed $50.

Are you sure their is no way to remove the black paint only? I think they are different types of paint (the black seems to be acrylic) and therefore using an acrylic paint remover should only remove the acrylic, no?

It will still mess up the white paint, there is a thread here on the forum in the rrestoration section look it up its about the paint that you'll need to repaint the interior, i have removed a lot of paint from drum shells, and have not been able to save the original paint yet,

Ok. whatever you decide. I just hope you dont hit a scammer who opens a SNAD claim and the returns a box full of firewood and you are out of your item,the S/H and... you still got to pay Ebay fees!!!!

A lot of people here dont really know what that company its turning in to. But I guess you learn when you catch your fingers on the door

if your restoring them strip the paint, if you aren't leave it alone,if they were mine i would strip the paint and take them back to white interior, just my 2 :2Cents:D' Drummer

But that's always an option. I can't see a reason to not try and remove just the black first. Especially considering the remarkable success other on the forum have had with the 3M stripper
