I have a rough idea as to value. I'm looking more for any info to help age date. I haven't seen very much info on the web on marching snares. From what I have seen and read the P83 was introduced in 1950? The badge looks like a 1940's aluminum. Is there a way to tell when in the 1940's they were used. I would think it have to be post war 1946-50. So maybe a transition of 1949-50 since it has the P83. I'm just guessing. The drum has a natural mahogany shell with the white pearl exterior. Maybe an expert could shed some light or direct me to a site that can. thanks

Go to this section of the forum at the top of the page Vintage Drum Identification and look under drum badges, also the date you have stated is not an aluminum badge, generally marching snare drums bring less money than a regular snare drum does!

That's where I got the date (from the ID page) it shows an aluminun keystone badge that is dated 1940's that is on my drum. Also this drum is NOT for sale...I don't know how that got on my post. Although I'm a guitar guy I have a small collection of Ludwig snares.

Bob, Man she's a beauty!!!! yeah your correct that is the year model look inside the shell it may be stamp dated, red stamp, that is a great set snare drum, if you have a stand to accommodate it, keep it, fine field snare drum

Well, this is the "For Sale" section of this forum....and I apologize if you truly are seeking information, but lately we have been hammered by people coming here, setting up an account slamming our heads for information, then when we tell them the drum(s) are worth 100 bucks, the next day they are found on ebay/CL for $15,000 becauise they are so RARE! even if it is a Ludwig Rocker bass drum in blue sparkle....

So, since you did not pop on and introduce yourself and look around a bit, I naturally assume you are here to glean all the information you get and run off to gain the riches of the world....

Sorry I didn't intro myself but wasn't sure of proper procedure also I just bought the snare today. I had researched it on the site for a couple of days and was excited to find out more about it. I am not a drummer but I appreciate fine drums and talented drummers. I play guitar but have a small collection of vintage Ludwig snares that I have run across through the years. I keep thinking I will put together a set to match(and learn to play correctly) but they are kind of hard to find piece by piece in my budget but I continue my search.
