That drum is a Peavey.I looked it up when it was first listed, because I wanted to bid on it....But I also have too many snare drums.Radial Bridge System-
Grabbed this one!!!
Yes, it's a Peavey. I'm not sure there was ever a doubt. It's a radial pro 1000 in the nice red lacquer finish. The whole point of the thread was to giggle at my new snare. The listing was vague and the seller was not sure what it was. I knew immediately and swooped in to grab it. I didn't see the listing until just before it ended. It was very good timing on my part. I love these drums and got a kick out of finding one so cheap. Cool stuff.
Cool score Michael! Cool1
While you are continuing to collect, I am slimming down my collection. Not for any financial reasons......its more a space consideration than anything. Peavey drums were sure a different animal..... :D
Yes, Peavey- hmm- really looks like they had a very similar design to that Bulgee.... Big question- how`s the sound and sensitivity?

It arrived today. Oh my. It's in excellent condition and plays like a dream. This is a newer snare which goes against my vintage shift but I couldn't pass it up at that price. It's a standard 1000 series snare. It has two throws that allows for some nice tweaking. The shell has to be seen to be believed. It's massive. I will give it a spit shine and pop a pic or two later. The finish rocks. It's a very nice red lacquer and is in really good shape. They haven't made these for quite a few years. I'll just pretend that it falls into the RARE category. That way I won't get all bugged at it not being vintage.

Michael,so you been burnin up the skins on the New grab???Cool1Keep on Pl
ok. So, I didn't clean it yet, but I wanted to post a couple of pics anyway. While I've played several Peavey snares, I've never actually taken one apart. What an amazing instrument.
This thing weighs in at over 12 pounds. ouch.
The shell is massive and the edges are perfect. Even at the thinnest point (next to the edges) it's still very thick.
It plays like you would imagine. It has the solid wood character. It has a seemingly limitless tuning range. I'm going to work with some different hoops, I think. Maybe some Slingy's.
It has the twin throws. There is no butt end. Both sides of the snare are a full function throw. That way, you can fine tune this thing till your hearts content.
I realize this is not a vintage drum. It's just a cool find. They didn't make that many of them. I figured there are members here who may not be that familiar with these...so, here ya go.
congrats! Jump For Joy I can see how absolutely wrong I was. From the first photos I imagined some strange "enamel" swirl over metal- I couldn`t actually tell it was wood from the pic. This is realllly interesting. Very excellent score
