1920 Ludwig Snare! - $600

Loading...

I'm new to vintage drums and not really a collector, but I wanted an opinion on this craigslist ad for a 1920s snare. What should I look for when something like this comes along to know if it's legit and the price is right? These older drums I see on the forum are very beautiful and it makes me want to buy one.

That is high for a 6 lug drum, it should be 1/2 the price,, watch ebay for a better comparision,

Thanks vintagemore2000. I will do some research after work. My company blocks everything and it limits my goof off time forcing me to actually work while I'm at work.

They want you to WORK while at work?

Well! You should report them!

Offer the guy on CL a couple hundred (or less) for the drum if it's desirable to you and in good shape. Can't ever tell, ya know.

That drum is overpriced. When looking at these old Ludwigs(NOB) be aware that there are 2 quality levels. The good ones have a heavy 2 peice brass shell that is joined at the bead and has edge flanges that fold all the way back to the shell wall and are soldered there. The less desirable ones have a 1 piece shell with only a single bend in the edge flange. A 4x14 with the heavy shell and 6 lugs should not be more than $350 or so. At that price it is a great drum.

Brother you are on the money, the first 1920's 6 lugger i had was the ultimate punk rock drum, it wasn't unpleasant sounding, it was just in your face sounding with a nice amount of timbale sound in a snare drum, but it only had one tuning range IN YOUR FACE!!!! by the way so you have a black beauty, i meant to complement you on your awesome drum!!
