1939/1940 Slingerland Radio King??

Loading...

I have the exact snare drum pictured. Green sparkle (though mine is not in nearly as good of shape). My drum is missing the original strainer, and butt plate (with 4 extra holes drilled for the crappy import hardware they used to replace it), but it has the late 30's cloud badge, and the exact same hoops as shown. What I want to know is this:

My drum is 1 ply maple with rings. Is my drum a "Radio King" or a "Hollywood Ace" model? The page I got this pic from says this is a "Hollywood Ace" snare. I always thought mine was a Radio King.

Can anyone help me with what differentiates the drums in this pre-war era? I know that later the strainers were "rapid" and the shells were plied on the Hollywood Ace drums, but what is the difference in the late 30's/early 40's? Is it just weather the hoop is engraved with "Radio King" or not? As far as I can tell my hoop is NOT engraved.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Also, does anyone know how much an original strainer and butt plate would set me back?

Thanks,

Adam

Also, the badge on mine is on the panel to the left of the strainer, and the muffler is on the panel to the right of the strainer. 7x14 size.

Thanks!

I have 2 drums like this. One has a brass cloud badge and the other came with no badge. (The wrap had been stripped.) The one with the cloud badge has no engraved hoops. the other has the engraved hoops. I too, am unclear as to whether they are late 30s, early 40s or late 40s. It seems to be a little murky in this era. Both drums are 7x14 and both are 1 ply.

Also, I recognize the photo and if it came from another web site mention the name. It is nice to source the image and where it came from.

Again, the pic is NOT my drum. My drum is the same, but is missing the strainer and butt plate.

Thanks!

Yeah I got you the first time, as stated this drum in the picture is a 40's model, post a parts desired list here on the forum for your missing parts!
