Slingerland and Ludwig

I started a post about these a while ago. They were on Craigslist and then they were gone. Now they are back and I got to communicate (via email) with the owner. He sent me the serial numbers of each of the Slingerland's. He said this set was from the late 60's early 70's.

Serial numbers:

8x12 = 182468

9x13 = 182480

18x20 = 184244

16x24 = 182492

Based on these numbers is his estimate accurate?

Should these have re-rings?

I am not familiar with Slingerland drums. Based on the photo's does it look like all of the hardware is era correct and complete?

I am going to offer him $400.00, are these worth that?

Also, I asked him if the Ludwig's had bearing edges cut on the bottom and he said yes and that are covered by that metal ring you can see in the pic's. So I figuered I could always add lugs, screws and rims and make them whole.

Ludlover, the18x20" floor tom is almost worth the asking price, and there probably is a bearing edge waiting for you under that steel re ring, you could do worse believe me, desirable finish yeah your good to go here!!

Bass drum spurs look suspicious. They have rubber feet and a spike.

As long as they are in good shape, They are worth 5 bills...

Good luck and don't snooze on these!!

Ludwigs will be easily converted to double-headed.. 16 even a floor, if you wanted.. 15 too!

The spurs looked suspicious ( too new) to me also. But like I said, I am not familiar with vintage Slingerland. Hopefully someone chimes in and knows what the spurs should be.

I agree, the spurs look like a newer fold down style, the angle is not right at all, and the feet are definitely wrong, probably some aftermarket gibralters. They are probably from mid to early 70s, not 60s, and should be 3 ply shells with re-rings. If they have no rings they are from the later 70s and are 5ply shells. I would check out the spurs for sure, but other than that everything looks pretty good, definitely a nice set for $400.

The badge pictured and serial numbers puts them at 1976, so they should have re-rings,... they weren't offered as an option until '77/'78 by the catalogs.

I couldn't found any bass drums with a 16 inch depth in the catalog scans for that time period. If it really is 16 inches in depth, it's either uncataloged or maybe not Slingerland.

The bass legs are wrong for sure as a couple have mentioned. .. Slingys have telescoping legs. I did find fold out legs in the '92 Spirits line catalog, though.

If the bass is mis-measured, the set might be part of the Concorde Outfit from the 1976 catalog... it was offered in any finish you cared to order.

Maybe he measured the hoops and that's where the 16" comes from. Take the hoops out of the measurment and you should get 14"

Thanks for the link. I saw that the other tom sizes are listed in the catalog.

Yep, it fits....

The thing that always shakes me up when something is mis-measured is, how could everything else be measured right, and this one thing is wrong?

Ever since I took delivery on a 22x12 that was supposed to be a 22x14 shell, it just throws up a flag for me.

Anyway, hope you get them, I really love that blondish maple finish...

I was going to pursue them and then noticed the concert toms which I'm not a big fan of. If I could of bought them for $500 or less however I'd live with them. That's a good deal and they look in nice shape.

Are you saying the set came with two Ludwig concert toms or the Slingerland's were concert toms? If it was the same slingy's and came with the two Ludwig concert toms then that would be an amazing coincidence. Maybe this dude has two homes.
