We had a Marc's yard and a half birthday party last night at the Fisher Jamhole.Im 54 now. Hurting . Our fiddle Player gave me a nice fiddle for my collection. its very cool. The guy that I bought the Blk Panthers from came and he gave me 1964 Ludwig Floor tom. Someone has painted it black, it has the red felt base ball bat muffler, under the black paint it's white marine pearl. Eye BallI think he hates me. Here I am just getting started restoring my Panthers, and he comes up and gives me this rare old FT that I will have to bug all you guys for advice on how to remove the black paint hoping that it will look fabulous under the stupid black paint. This floor tom came from the same guy that sold him the panthers, so I am assuming the original owner of these wanted 2 floor toms, and painted it black to match the Black Panthers. Is there a paint stripper that won't harm the pearl wrap?

Hey,Poppy, happy b-day...You not to far from me in ageHurtingLaughing H..Anyway what works the best for me to remove paint is called GOOF-OFF,it will take alittle work but when the tom is done it will look great..Mikey

I guess I could strip it and sell the parts. The badge is probably worth 45, the muffler is probably worth about 45 and the lugs, rims, legs, leg brackets etc....

No....it's a 64...Is it a 14"? It is worth so much more than the sum of it's parts to someone that needs it. Stripping parts is so harsh. I guess I was unclear, I would never strip an otherwise good drum for parts. Look what you have accomplished with the tom on the B-P set-most people would not have attempted that repair. I am like you when it comes to taking on the most difficult repairs, I am not shy about getting it done because the drums are worth breathing new life into old shells. I even do it with otherwise "crap" old MIJ kits and give them to kids who cannot afford drums ant other way. I know it needs to have the black paint off, and that will be a pain, buit maybe someone that needs it would appreciate it, even if they had to do the work.

"Ignorance may be overcome through education. Stupidity, however, is a lifelong endeavor." So, educate me, I don't likes bein' ignant...
"I enjoy restoring 60s Japanese "stencil" drums...I can actually afford them..."I rescue the worst of the old valueless drums for disadvantaged Children and gladly accept donations of parts, pieces and orphans, No cockroaches, please...

The shell repair wasnt so hard, it just takes a little imagination, effort, and a little know how.
