Hey everyone. I just finished restoring this kit and wanted to share pictures of the restoration, before/After Pictures. You don't see these kits come along too often, and ussually not in this condition. No extra holes, all factory Matched and 99% original parts. Here's the links:

Completed Pics:

Here's the pics in the proccess of restoration:

P.S. if you are in the NJ/NYC are and in the need of restoration drop me a line!

Very nice, you did a beautiful job cleanig up that wrap. How's the cat doing? Did you have to restore him to?

Great job cleaning those up. Did you use some kind of solvent, or was it good old elbow grease?

Thanks! I used a variety of different things to restore the wrap, but mainly a whole lot of elbow gease and time.

The cat is doing just fine, but he's had to find a new place to sleep.

One thing I forgot to mention is that the hardware is 100% chrome plated. 95% of the L& L drums I see are nickel plated. And on top of that, the hoops were factory painted black. Many of the L & L bass drum hoops are stained a natural wood color.

I've been told the chrome plating and black hoops identify that this was a very high end set, and was the most expensive of the original options. Not that I am looking to sell this kit...it is one of the best sounding and probablly the most well constructed set I've ever seen.

Thanks again!

Nice restoration job. It is true for earlier Leedy drums that chrome was relatively rare and more expensive, but by the time Leedy and Ludwig drums were being made (early 50's), chrome had become much more of a standard. Chrome was used on a Leedy and Ludwig marching drum I have, so I don't think it was reserved only for high priced drums. In fact the high-end Leedy and Ludwig drums were the knob-tension drums (like here: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyJQcIGrHTY[/ame] ) - these are very rare since they sold very badly and didn't hold up well. Black hoops on L&L was also standard in my experience (Leedy had the stained hoops).

Cool video. I've never been a fan of the knob tension L&L , mainly becasue I think they are ugly. Cool video, none the less.

That is interesting what you said about chrome/black painted hoops. I've actually never seen a full L & L kit all in chrome. Every one I've ever seen (not including marching drums) has Nickel.

I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for that. Thanks again for your comment and the video.
