Ludwig B/O Buddy Rich set

Loading...

I called on these and they do not have re-rings. The sizes are 24x14, 13x9 and two 16x16's

Was this set put out by Ludwig as a BR set or are they (Musicgoround) refering to the sizes?

Did BR use two 16x16's

The one floor tom looks bigger to me, but it must be an optical illusion because when I called, the person was certain that the floor toms were the same size.

The set does appear to be in nice condition.

Are they worth the asking price?

LUDLOVER!...

Multiple answers to your questions here! The straight forward answer is that this set is IN the Buddy Rich configuration... it is not however an actual cataloged BR set from when he was a Ludwig endorser. The spurs are incorrect on this set for starters, and incorrect only means as a CATALOGED Buddy Rich model from his last endorsement period with Ludwig which was from 1977 to 1980 WITH an endorsement contract. Are there TWO shell mounted "L" arm holders on the bass drum? Can't tell from the pic... you should inquire. Also, I have to agree with you on the floor toms... one does indeed look like it could be a 14X14, or even a 16X18... but again, doesn't really matter as this isn't an actual cataloged Buddy Rich set.

Have a look/read at this thread... plus ... there's a nice shot of the actual cataloged BR model. It will help!http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=6207

Actually, I think this is a BR set. I called again and found out that the bass drum has been modified (extra holes) for different spurs. The original telescoping spur mounts (actual spurs are missing) in the back of the drum are still there. I found out that the bass drum is in fact a 16x24 13x9 tom and two 16x16 ft's. The bass drum also has the Rail Consolette but has been moved to the center of the drum.

There is no snare drum either.

According to the Ludwig catalogue photo I have attached, which I got from the link Tommyp provided, this set very well may be a Ludwig BR set.

The picture I have attached can be seen better in the link below.

I'm not sure it is worth the money with the mods done to the bass drum though????

Any info would be a help.

Here is the Music Go Round link again.

I'll tell ya... I have THREE complete BR sets and have never seen the 16X16's "look different" in size like those do, but that said, for the sake of argument, let's say that it IS a BR set:

The different spurs... extra holes... moved rail consolette, have certainly compromised this set's collectibility, but not it's playability! Did you ever get word on the two shell mount "L" arm cymbal holders? Those should be there too of course. Regardless... as a player set, these would probably more than suffice. Too bad that they were so messed with though.

If that is from the Milwaukee store the guy told me it was a 14x24 bass drum and that the two floor toms are both 16x16. He also said it had the modular hardware. It could be that one of us talked to some pimply faced kid who knows nothing about drums. I was thinking about maybe taking a drive up there to see if they would make a trade on a kit I have. Where are you located ludlover?

The first kid (maybe the same one you talked to) I talked to said it is a 14x24 but when I called a second time and asked them how they knew it was a BR set they put me on the phone with a kid that seemed to have more knowledge. I told him that the BR set should be 16x24 and he said that it is a 16x24. I am not sure who to believe. He also added that for the era, the rail consolette only came on the BR model. Not to say that someone didn't order it that way or modify the drum.

The two 16x16's do look like different size drums in the picture but they swear that they are the same size. It may be an optical illusion. If you look at the hoops of each FT where they are stacked together it does not appear that they overlap eachother so I believe they are the same size.

I am located in Michigan. At this point I do not want the set because of the mods. It may be worth (if it is a BR set) the price but after shipping and such it wouldn't be worth it to me.

I hope you take a look at it so you can let us know the answer to the mystery.

I guess they have to agree that the kit I have to trade is worth double what they can get for the BR kit. I will let you know.
