I'll second that. If the shells (wrap, bearing edges, plies) are in good condition and the hardware is still functional then I'd go for them. You might be surprised at how nice you could make them sound with decent heads.

I used to own a set of "Continental" drums (another stencil name but identical to Reuther) and they were quite nice...typical luan shells, Pearl diamond lugs, Rogers-copy swivel ball type mounts, clear wrap with foil underneath tacked to the shells. It came with a 20" cymbal stamped "Reuther Made In Japan." With proper tuning and new heads the drums sounded very good. The cymbal was quite gongy and weird, but used inverted as a china trash it worked great. I ended up peeling the wrap from the shells (it was quite worn) and staining them cherry mahogany inside & out. I sold them to my band's bass player and he still has them today in his practice studio, and they still sound good -- over 20 years after I bought them used.

About 15 yrs ago I walked into a local drumshop and they had a Ruether in mint condition,in pink sparkle and they looked great,they were already sold though.I think it was the only pink sparkle set I have ever seen in person.I had just gotten in my first blues band and they would have been perfect.200.00 if they are in good shape is a good deal,and some of those japanese versions of classic wraps are really cool looking IMO.

200.00 is a fair price. As they are later, by the description of the others, they may be Tiawanese, and therefore I, personally, would take a stab at an offer. I deal with a lot of MIJ and MIT stuff, and you will find more often than not, and you can ask others here, if you make an offer, they will usually take it, especially sellers on CL and you are the only person to actually show up. They may get a lot of email traffic, but showing up is 90% of the deal. Go to the seller, do not ask too many questions via email, bombard him in person, and then offer him 125. He will sell them to you for that, or counter at 150. It works every time, because you are there with cash in hand, and that is what he wants, a live buyer, cash in hand, because if you leave, he may not get another chance. I have realized that 99% of CL buyers are flakes. Go, try this out, it works most of the time. But DO NOT ask a ton of qustions via email, ALWAYS do it in person, in front of the kit, and if the wife is present, wait until she is out of the room. If she stays the whole time, leave, and call his cell phone about 15 minutes later. Then ask him to entertain your offer, and really lowball. Once you have left without the drums in hand, offer the lowest you feel comfortable. He will sell them.

ill probably go check them out this weekend if hes sill got them...so im guessing these sets have very little value? i had the thought in mind to give them a good cleaning replace whats missing and resell them if i didnt care for the sound..but if there not very valuable ill just hang on to them
