Are they any good?

Aren't they the same shells as their contemporaary just more entry level hardware?

Got a 4 piece recently in red mist for $499. Stupid me I didn't verify the badges first with picture just believed the dude when he said that it was a Keystone badged kit.

Live and learned on this one... heh

Good thing I can get a refund though. :)

Same shells as the "real" Ludwig kits of the time. Cheaper hardware, but still fine imo. I totally dig the Standard line.

I would pay $500 for a complete 4 piece kit any time, and especially if they were in nice shape and had a matching snare.

A good find either way! Don't get your money back unless they are beat up and missing a bunch of parts!

They aren't too beat up, has matching snare all with decent evans head.

I only took the rack tom out of the box, and there is a issue with the tom

mount being relocated to the other side and holes plugged with machine

style carriage bolts, and the wrap on the rack is dinged a bit but not

all the way through. Got it from GC used gear and like I said, I only

trusted the drum guys word on the badge or I would have passed on this set.

He did call me back just awhile ago and tell me I could return it to a local

GC and avoid shipping charges back, so that is great news.

Kind of a let down to get home from work after wife says there's a box, open

the box and see some Standard lugs! But again like I said, it was my dumb

for not getting at least a camera phone picture of a badge on the kit...

These are great kits. There is NO difference in sound or function......and the wraps are uber cool. I love my Standard. It's one of my faves. I would LOVE to have another. If you want your money back...post some pics and if it's in good shape, maybe one of us would consider taking it off your hands. Seriously cool kits.

[COLOR="DarkRed"]Well....yes....$500 for a full set of Standards is still a pretty good deal. That is a strange thing about the relocated tom mount...is it a 13" tom ?

I am wondering if the kit was originally a 5-pc and the left-hand rack tom got lost, so they moved the right one over to the left (?)

You could return it or you could likely get your $ back on 'em if you resell.....but...they are very decent drums...shells exactly the same as the classic shells, as Adam Cargin said (funny, Adam... I know a drummer-guy with your name...but he don't live in Madison....)....hmmmm......

Ok, will do. Should I just PM you the pics?

Edit = BTW, the ding is small but it is all the way to shell, I think these

will be going back tomorrow. I seriously don't think you guys will want

these, haven't even checked the kick yet but floor looks ok with very

minor wear marks.

Yeah, it's a 13x9 rack tom. It is by far the worst offender on this kit.

And the mount was moved to other side, but why not just move the

drum instead of the mount, so the badge would face front? And

there's no tom mount but the GC did say it was missing. Was just going to

put it on a snare stand like my WFL rack tom does now. They do sound

pretty damn good, but not as sweet as my circa '50 WFL kit.

Snare is pretty cool looking and kick is a 20'' which was the other reason

I jumped on this thing. Floor is 16/16.

Just a few more complete pics after finally setting them up just a short time ago.

Aside from that tom, they really don't look too terrible, but they could use

some hoop mounted spurs. The spurs on this kit don't keep the thing from moving forward, but haven't tried with a foot pedal that has built on little

pointy thingies either. Also, was the hardware imported? The batter side claws had a few stickers that said MIJ on them.

Shoot me a PM if anyone is really serious, I will take them back to my local

GC either tomorrow or Sunday, but I doubt they will refund me the stupid sales tax I had to pay or shipping. Grand total with shipping and NM sales tax was

561.

Give them a few days on here. Somebody will take them...

I really like my Standards and will like them even more when I finish them...
