This from the owner, then we spoke by phone for over an hour, and this is the genuine article.
He has the original snare hoops and clips, and it is an old Ludwig brass shelled monster. He is seriously thinking to keep it. I want one set of the hi-hats, he has two...
I thank you for the info. I have attached a couple pics just for samples. I can get more after I get them all set up. They've been sitting in the closet in cases for the last 10 years. That was the last time I played them. Before that was another 9 years they were stored. I got them when I was a kid and first got serious about playing. I was in the typical high school rock band then life changed and I put them away except for a special show I did with the church.
As far as the set goes, the hardware for the cymbals are not time period correct. They are later model Tama stands for the 2 crash and I believe a lud stand for the ride. Even though the snare does not originally go with the set, I have seen a snare like (Ludwig Brass 8" deep from way back, and he has all the original parts and strainer, no extra holes, the newer strainer fit in existing holes) this go for over $1K by itself. It is at least as old and you just dont see these deep brass snares often. Other than the stands not matching, this set is in GREAT shape, and honestly I was dumb founded to find out their age when I looked them up. I knew my parents got them as a used set when I was a kid, but I figured they were 5 MAYBE 10 years old when I got them back in the mid to late 80's. I am sooooooo glad I invested in the hard cases to keep them safe all these years. Thanks again for your advise,
