I have a 20's Leedy bass drum, snare drum and chinese tom tom. The drums are the Full Dress series with black lacquer and gold and red sparkle diamond inlays. All the hardware is solid brass or brass plated. The bass drum has an original painting on the front head. The snare drum is an extremely rare Broadway Parallel model with individually adjustable snare wires. It has solid brass rims, and a tone that is unmatched. The bass drum is missing several rim hooks and tension rods. The front head is separated at the edge for a few inches, but it does not interfere with the painting, and it can be patched so the drum can be used. I will sell the drums individually or I will sell them as a set. The set price which includes the Chinese tom tom is $3000. Individually the snare drum is $2000, the bass drums is $1000, and the Chineses tom is $400. If you are interested in individual pieces, please let me know which ones. I have someone inquiring about the Chinese tom, but I would rather sell the drums as a set. So if you are interested please let me know ASAP. You can see photos of them at my website www.donthorpe.com/vintage-drums/for-sale.htm

Thanks,

Don O. Thorpe

I dunno, man...I guess if this were 12 years from now the market would bear those prices. Since the Vintage Drum market is about 20-25 years behind the Vintage Guitar market where an old quality instrument costs more than my house, anything could happen. Maybe someone'd even pay like that now-->doubt it.

Thanks for your feedback. I guess it all depends on the value one places in something. I've seen prices for Rogers Dynasonic snare drums all the way from $500 to over $3000. And I know personally of a couple that sold for over $2000 each. I even saw an eBay ad for a 22" 60's vintage Zildjian cymbal for $2000. These Leedy drums from the 20's approach the definition of antique, and the sky's the limit on something like that because most of the time they are one-of-a-kind or at least very rare. New drums, quality drums, sell for almost as much as the old vintage drums, but the vintage drums can't be duplicated or replaced. Perhaps, I should hang on to them for another decade or two -- if I'm still around . Thanks again for all your comments.

those are just outlandish asking prices! why is it people constantly think they're sitting on a gold mine? I've seen great double tension bass drums bring not more than $200-400 bucks,... $1000?... that's just out of sight.:(
