broken Slingerland Set-O-matic mount

Loading...

I have an 8x12 Slingerland tom and the tightening rod broke off the other day inside the mount. Any ideas in how I can get the broken one out of there? And once I do what kind/size I need to get to replace it?

I really don't want to have to buy a whole new (old) mount on Ebay as I see them for around $40. (The tom probably didn't cost me 2x that much.)

Thanks - John

Sounds like the bolt broke off inside that copper bar that it goes into.

If I have this right:

Remove the tom mount from the drum. The copper bar may just come out and those are available on ebay and other places. I may even have one for you.

If it's broken off and the broken piece prevents the bar from coming out, try using a dremel or low speed drill. Pour some wd40 or 3 in one oil around the bold and, with a small bit, drill into the broken bolt a bit, then do reverse, etc. It should come loose.

I hope this helps...post a photo if you can...

Take the part off the drum....This is an easy fix...That nut was a special made thing...The chrome plated tt plates also had a clip too...

The strap nut might be able to be salvaged..If not....you can use a square nut and cut a thin strip of flat stock...mount it to the nut using JB Weld.

or make you own strap nut.....NO NEEED to buy a whole mount

Appreciate your replies!

Will take the mount off and see what I can do.
